Is it possible for Ghost to backup external disks?

I have a couple of HDs connected to a system via USB 3. One of these disks is used for my Ghost backups but the other has user data. I would like to be able to use Ghost to backup the disk with user data but Ghost doesn't seem to allow me select this disk for backup. I presume that this is because the disk is an external disk.

Are there any options in ghost that will allow me to select an external disk for backup?

Re: Is it possible for Ghost to backup external disks?

My external data HDDs are connected to the PC via a docking station with an eSata connection, which is virtually a direct connection to the motherboard. That means that I can backup the drive up using Ghost, to do that I select the drive using "Run or Manage Backups" option and then select "Define New" it can then run incremental backups of my data.

Hope that helps.

I can backup a USB 2 hard drive fine. You cannot backup a USB Flashdrive.

Re: Is it possible for Ghost to backup external disks?

I understand that you are trying to backup the drive.

The one issue I forsee is with USB 3.0 -- the Symantec Recovery Disk is built on a version of WinPE that does not recognize USB 3.0. Thus, if you back up to USB 3.0 media, boot to the recovery disk and see if that drive can be detected. If it can, then likely that drive is USB 2.0 backwards compatible and is detected as such. If not, then a backup destination is recommended.

Re: Is it possible for Ghost to backup external disks?

LOL - I figured out what the problem was. It turns out that this external HD had gone bad. It worked a few hours earlier, but had died between then and when I tried to image it with Ghost. Fortunately I already had other copies of the data so no loss. Drive is only a few months old, so time for repair under warranty.

Thanks to all of you for your responses.
