Just one complaint...

Hello. I'm using the Norton Security Trial and I noticed that every time I load up my GMail account, it takes over 15 seconds to load as opposed to loading instantly without Norton installed. It does this even when Email Protection is disabled. I'm looking to purchase Norton Security as long as I'm able to get it to load up GMail much faster than that. Your thoughts?

Re: Just one complaint...

Hotsuma9 15 seconds in my opinion isn't waiting a lifetime for a security product to make sure its doing its job and protecting you. Basic information concerning what operating system you are running and its version. What browser you are using and version, whether you have other security product installed and/or running at the same time Norton is running. Your country of origin, all of which will help us to understand what your issues could be. If you would be so kind please post that information.

Cheers

South Carolina, United States

Windows 10 Pro - Version 1703

Google Chrome - Version 60.0.3112.101 (Official Build) (64-bit)

No other security apps

Well, that's ok. I'm considering going back to either Avira or Malwarebytes.

FWIW!! My G-mail loads in 5 seconds, Pennsylvania, USA - Windows 10 Pro version 1703 build 15063.540 IE11 32bit. No other security apps as well. Although I do not have 100's of messages for the site to load its loading fine on my end. Chrome 60 totally isolates all 32bit NPAPI calls related to JAVA prompts from websites now by default and runs them in sandbox. This began with version 45. https://superuser.com/questions/1088584/why-is-the-java-plugin-jre-disabled-in-chrome

Check your JAVA permissions in Chrome. Therefore I submit your browser is doing you an injustice vice your Norton product.

Re: Just one complaint...

Hi Hotsuma9,

I have to ask how you are accessing your GMail?

Are you using the Identity Safe Vault to log into GMail?

Are you already logged into your Google Account (using Google Home Page) and have Chrome opened and click on the Gmail?

As long as I am signed in, it takes just under 5 seconds for my GMail to open using either ID Safe or the GMail icon(?) within Chrome.on the Google Home page.

I missed something here. How did java come into play? I don't think this user has java installed and java is not used at all by gmail... It's generally recommended not to install java given how poor its security track record has been.

Your first two links relate to Java (programming language) maintained by Oracle. Java is not related to and should not be confused for JavaScript.

Your 3rd link relates to automated access to gmail via their API.

I'm not sure how Java comes into play at all in this thread. If the user had JavaScript disabled then gmail would not load at all (vs loading slowly).
