Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

Hello,

Last night I upgraded from NIS to NS and all appears to have gone smoothly. I did the over install on two desktops and one laptop. Also got Norton Chat to add my 200 days from NIS to my subscription which I'm very pleased about.

On looking at my settings they all seem to have been saved as they were in NIS but I have a question regards the 'Task scheduling'.

I used to only do a monthly full system scan but in the settings for 'Task Scheduling' I have it set to 'automatic' (Recommended)? If I leave this as is, how often will it do this. I see if you check the monthly option then you have to select a time and date plus the check box for running only in idle time.  It would be interesting to hear from a few of you as to what settings you prefer and your experience from it.

Regards

Hi brummie,

I choose Automatic in my NSBU
It cleans up when the machine is idle. A popup shows the actions performed when I resume from idle. (optimiser is unticked)

Re: Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

Hi Nikil_CV,

How often does it do a full system scan with it set to 'Automatic'?

What I did using NIS was set auto scan to monthly and did the odd manual quick scan as I didn't want to keep losing auto logins all the time. (Using IE 11, Windows 7 Home Prem).

Hi brummie,

FWIW, I don't know how many times the full scan is done by setting to Automatic.
Personally, I removed the check mark for this option and manually run a full system scan 2 times a month.

Someone else will say.

Thanks Sandro, this is another option I was considering but still waiting to hear about the scans frequency when set to 'Automatic'.

Have a good day.

Re: Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

If you set "Tracking Cookies Scan" to Ignore in both Computer Scan and Full System Scan, your auto-logons will not be lost. Also the Automatic setting for tasks does not affect the frequency of scans. Full computer scans are scheduled in the Antivirus section, under Full System Scan. Quick Scans are scheduled as and when required, usually after a LiveUpdate that has downloaded antivirus definitions.

Hi AlanRussell,

Spot on there, just had a look in the 'Antivirus section' and indeed my old settings carried over from NIS are still there for the monthly scan. Thanks very much for the information.  Marked as solved.

Re: Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

Hello brummie

I have my full system scans set to weekly and I set it for a day of the week and time of the day when I know the computer will be idle. This way the scan can complete without it being interrupted every time you go back to the computer. I also have it set to keep the computer on after the scan.

Please do check over the rest of the settings in the program as there are some different ones in this program. Thanks. Should really mark the post which gave you the solution, but that is up to you.

Re: Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

Evening Flo,

I have been in and out checking bits today and still finding new stuff, thankfully most settings appear to have remained from NIS. I don't really need to do full scans weekly, prefer the monthly option. I remember a Symantec employee once stated on here (Can't remember who) that full scans weren't really necessary the way Norton programmes are set up.

I have marked the relevant post as the solution.

Re: Just upgraded to NS and have a question!

Hello brummie

Thanks for correcting the Accepted Solution. I guess I am still old school as far as the frequency of scanning. Even if it's done monthly, I still would like to select the day and time of the scan so that it doesn't interrupt me and I don't interrupt it. Running it over night is my way of getting it done when convenient. Each to their own way as long as it's a legal way.
