Keeping Myself Safe w Norton?

I am writing because during the period of 2018 to 2019, I was the victim of multiple security breaches and account hacks. It appears my Facebook, Instagram, Snap and other personal accounts were accessed without my permission on various occasions during that time.

The hackers were able to gain access to significant amounts of my private data and personal information over an extended period by impersonating me online. While I have now taken steps in 2023 to secure my accounts, I remain deeply concerned about my information that was already compromised in the 2018-2019 attacks.

I have tried to lock down and revoke access to my current accounts, but I still worry that my personal data from the past breaches may be out there. That is why I recently purchased Norton security services, in hopes that you can help prevent any further misuse of the information that was already exposed.

I want to be as proactive as possible to safeguard my privacy after those unfortunate earlier experiences. Are there any specific Norton features you recommend for someone like me who has fallen victim to breaches in the past? My goal is to have the strongest protection available against potential identity theft and unauthorized account access now that my information has already been exposed.

Please Let me know which Norton Securities will help keep me safe, if any.

The anti malware features of Norton will help protect you against downloading and installing any malware that might gather your personal information. And the Safe Web browser extensions will help block dangerous or phishing web sites you might try to access. 

No software can protect you 100% of the time against all attempts to gather your information. Even with this protection, the main protection you have is being vigilant and able to detect scams and protect your information.

Setting up two factor authentication for all your online accounts is an excellent step to help restrict access to those accounts.

Maybe try the Dart Web Monitoring function, it's a warning system that looks for your information on the Dark Web, if any is found you get a notification and can do something about it.
Two Factor Authentication is definitely recommended, just make sure you don't have only one way to Authenticate, get a backup method like backup codes and leave it in a safe place. For example, if you get a new phone, then the authenticator app or SMS don't always work on the new phone.

How exactly does the Dart Web Monitoring work? Does it actively scan the dark web for your info or just send alerts if it's detected somewhere? What are some good two factor authentication methods you recommend besides SMS and authenticator apps? I've heard about using hardware keys like Yubikey but don't know much about them.

Is there a way to test if my information is already on the dark web? Or do I just have to sign up for a monitoring service and hope for the best? What types of personal info would you say are most vulnerable to being leaked or stolen online? Just financial stuff or things like passwords and identity too?

When you say no software can fully protect against information gathering attempts, what are the biggest threats that still bypass security software? Keyloggers? Advanced malware?

just my 2 cents in addition to to above suggestions ( very good ones)

you can get a free credit report ( all 3 bureaus) and see if anything shows up there thats suspicious

you could also put a free on those if necesary ( look into what that involves)

i know many sites now use 2fa ( that right seems close) where you get a text or email for example put some code or pin to verify

as for your personal information many sites have it ( do a people search) so depends on what information the hackers were able to get

as for now protecting yourself somewhat a repeat but

keep norton uptdate, your browsers up todate, windows up todate

use 2fa and take the steps to secure your accounts ( varys by site what options they have)

The software should block almost all attempts to install malware that could gather your information. But no software can protect against the thousands of different malware that are released every day. It takes time for the security companies to become aware of these new threats. Norton uses a behaviour based detection engine to try to catch these new threats. 

And the biggest flaw in security is a user that does not recognise a phishing attempt and the willingly offer the information to the scammer.

The gaming world is a large target for the scammers. They put out files supposedly offering cracks or hacks, but in face they will install malware on the system. As the user believes this is from a reputable source, they ignore any warnings from their security product. Or worse, they disable the security software when installing game packs.

I think its server is pretty easy to get into once youre in game as well
