"key" icon missing wifi Privacy

Samsung galaxy s9+, Android 8.0. WiFi Privacy used to display an icon resembling a key in the notification bar when the VPN was connected. I can not find any setting for this. It was useful to me, so I would like to see it come back.

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

I just checked with an HTC phone on Android 4.4.2, and Samsung Tab A (2017) on Android 7.1. The key appears on both my devices when the VPN is active.

I can find no setting for this notification.

What version of Norton Wifi Privacy have you installed? 2.5.1.9279 is the current version for Android.

Have you tried restarting the device?

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

I have the same version. I restarted. Still no key icon. This Samsung Galaxy S9+ with Android 8.0 is a replacement for a Nexus 6P with Android 8.1. I reinstalled WiFi Security on the Nexus 6p and I see the key icon on the notification bar. I have Action Launcher on both phones. The obvious differences are phone manufacturers and Android versions. As I mentioned, I used the key icon to keep up with the state of the VPN, since it occasionally disconnects. So I would like to see this issue resolved. Still, in the big scheme of things, I don't need or expect this to be resolved tonight or tomorrow.

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

On the Samsung device, look for the Notifications setting in Android settings. Make sure NWP is enabled for notifications.

"Notifications" is turned on for NWP.

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

Try clearing the app data for NWP, then uninstall the app. Restart your phone and then reinstall the app and check to see if it works correctly.

That didn't help.

Have you checked to see if there may be a software update for the Samsung device?

Do all other notifications for other apps work correctly?

"Latest updates have already been installed" I haven't noticed any that don't work - but there are several that do work.

Just to confirm. Did you ever see the icon on the Samsung device? If so, can you remember any updates or new apps that you installed around the time the NWP notifications stopped?

Have you verified that NWP is actually enabled while the key icon is not displayed?

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

I'm out of ideas. It sounds like it may be specific to your device and/or Android version.  So I'll pass this thread on to my Norton contacts. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Re: "key" icon missing wifi Privacy

OK. You made a valiant effort. Thank you. Surely there must be someone out there running NWP on a Samsung Galaxy S9+. If only they were to see this thread! It always helps to be able to reproduce a problem.
