Kids able to turn off / get around Norton Family - application error

My kids have found an error / loophole that allows them to get around Norton Family, so that all web monitoring and time monitoring are disabled, as if NF is not installed.

When they go to turn off their computers, depending on what else is open and how they time it, they get a message box that pops up entitled Norton Family: NF.exe - Application Error, with the message: "The instruction at 0x00007FFDC02AB520 referenced memory at 0x000000000000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program".

If they click on OK, the NF restarts but they've discovered that if they leave it, and just drag the box to the side of the screen, then NF never restarts and they can do what they like with no monitoring of time or web use.

What can I do to correct this? I've completely unistalled and reinstalled NF but we are still getting the same issue. So basically I have no parental supervision or controls on my kids' machines, rendering NF completely pointless.
