Kids able to turn off / get around Norton Family - application error

Is there a solution to this yet?

My kids have found an error / loophole that allows them to get around Norton Family, so that all web monitoring and time monitoring are disabled, as if NF is not installed.

When they go to turn off their computers, depending on what else is open and how they time it, they get a message box that pops up entitled Norton Family: NF.exe - Application Error, with the message: "The instruction at 0x00007FFDC02AB520 referenced memory at 0x000000000000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program".

If they click on OK, the NF restarts but they've discovered that if they leave it, and just drag the box to the side of the screen, then NF never restarts and they can do what they like with no monitoring of time or web use.

What can I do to correct this? I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled NF but we are still getting the same issue. So basically I have no parental supervision or controls on my kids' machines, rendering NF completely pointless.

This is the same issue on my Windows 10 PC's at home.  We have two PC's using Norton Family, and both PC's can be defeated using this method.

Both kids worked this out by themselves... clever kids... but frustrating for parents !

Please Norton fix this.  If you need screenshots or a walk-through on how to replicate this bug, let me know.

Re: Kids able to turn off / get around Norton Family - application error

If we do a remote session - do you want to remote into the Parent account, or the Child's account?  The error only occurs on the Childs account...

Here is a screenshot of the error message.

While this error message is active, for example do not click "OK" - then Norton Family protection is not able to time-limit the Childs account or limit any activities.  The kids just 'move' this error message to the side, and continue to play/surf whatever they like.

Hi ParentMD

We would need child account to troubleshoot. Please let us know your convenient timing for the remote session in private message.

I just want to say "Thank-you" to Anantha (Norton employee) for helping with this problem.

He was prompt in replying, made an appointment to diagnose the problem easily, and was efficient in looking for a solution.

I'm not sure yet if the beta-version will fix the problem, but it is appreciated that Norton take users issues seriously.

Thanks Anantha..... thanks where thanks are due...
