Kids Bypassing Time Supervision on Android

Hi - Our kids found a way to bypass the time supervision on their Galaxy Tab A.  When time is up and Norton boots them off, they press the Recent button and are able to gain access to any app that was open that also has Multi Window capability (like YouTube, Google Chrome, etc).  All they need to do is tap on the app and they're back to doing whatever they were doing prior to the time supervision kicking them off.  As best I can tell, Norton is no longer monitoring their activity when this happens.  Has anyone else seen this?

Re: Kids Bypassing Time Supervision on Android

Hi

During time curfew(block period) start and when two tabs are being opened, the active app will be closed first. Then the other app(like youtube, etc) will be closed when the app(youtube) obtains the focus or active (like the app is touched).

It is by design.  Can you please let us know if the behaviour you see falls in this scenario. This would happen  only at the start of curfew(block period).

Thanks

Re: Kids Bypassing Time Supervision on Android

I think we might have something else occurring.  To test things, I set the time allotment for my son's device today to zero hours and then also set the mobile app supervision to block the YouTube app.  When I signed onto the device and tried to launch YouTube, Norton gives the "This app is blocked because your daily time limit has been reached..." message. I then close that window and it brings me back to the Home screen on his device. Then I pressed the "Recent" button (to the left of the Home button on the Galaxy Tab A) and it displays a screen that shows all of the apps that have been launched, including the YouTube app.  If I now press the Multi-window icon on the YouTube screen (two rectangles - next to the "X" (close) ) it brings up a split screen with YouTube on top half of the screen now.  If I press anywhere on the active YouTube screen, the YouTube app will now display on the full screen and I have all functionality of the app.  Right now, this is happening during a block of time that is normally available for him to use the device, but he's able to bypass once the timer has expired.

To conclude, I was able to bypass both the Time and Mobile App supervision with just a couple of quick swipes of the finger

I'm also able to bypass the Norton family timer with the Chrome app too.... but it appears that Norton is at least logging the activity here (see Web activity log for 2/14/17 4:08PM - this occurred during my test run...)

Re: Kids Bypassing Time Supervision on Android

Hi

Our engineering team is checking into the issue.  In the meantime, can you please let us know your Norton Family version on the Android device?   The latest version is 4.1.0.30.  To find if you have the latest version, please go to your Android device, click Settings -> Applications -> Application manager -> Norton Family (menus may vary depending on the manufacturer of your device).

Thanks

Hi KatieQ -

Just checking to see if you've been able to replicate what I've described above and if you're taking any steps to address.  Right now, the time supervision is not working.

Thanks.
