Latest implementation of Norton Identity Safe extension for Chrome 64

The latest implementation of Norton Identity Safe in Chrome is both frustrating and time consuming. The settings can't be set to put it back on the toolbar and when you click on a log-in, it may or may not fill the log-in form. Even if it does it requires two more steps to log-in.  Some websites will no longer fill in at all and if you fill in your info Identity Safe will pop up asking to save new log-in even though nothing was changed. Is the previous Norton Identity Safe Extension 1.0.5. still available? I have used Norton since the DOS days but my Norton Premium subscription is up in 37 days and I will be evaluating a replacement if I can't get this easier to use.

I just renewed my subscription and updated everything.  Now I find out that the very convenient version of Identity Safe is not available on the Norton Toolbar in Chrome.  This is actually the only reason I use Chrome.  The "lost" version was very useful to copy and paste passwords that did not fill properly.  This is definitely a step backwards.

Re: Latest implementation of Norton Identity Safe extension for Chrome 64

This is what the announcement says:  "A latest version of Norton Security Toolbar (2018.13.2.22) for Chrome has been released to address a few bug fixes. With this update, the Norton Security Toolbar will be hidden by default. Even though the Norton Toolbar is hidden, it will still perform all of its functions such as Safe Web, Anti-phishing, Scam Insight processing, and show block pages."

It says nothing about Identity Safe, which is missing from the toolbar. So the new access to Identity Safe does not have some of the previous features, such as Fill Assistant.

The identity safe is now a new icon on the toolbar. However it does not auto fill in user ID and passwords without you first clicking a pop-up or if after you click the pop up, the page goes to a new page for your password. It will do nothing on the second page. Norton support said it does not work on 'split' pages and they are 'working on it'. They also said these changes were customer requests. Which customers? I want to REVERT! It only works the 'old' successful way in Internet Explorer now. I do NOT use IE!

I love identity safe,  but the the extension for Chrome now requires you to unlock the vault every time you open your browser.   previously you only had to enter it once and until you restart Windows it would stay open.  During the course of a day I might open and close Chrome a hundred times.   Now I have to unlock the vault each time?  And just to make it more frustrating after entering the vault password it opens up another Chrome tab that I have to close.     This is ridiculous.     FIX THIS ASAP  .

the extension for Chrome now requires you to unlock the vault every time you open your browser.   previously you only had to enter it once and until you restart Windows it would stay open.

The 'old' way where you could keep the vault open until you log out of Windows was for the Local vault. As soon as you went to the cloud vault, you lost that functionality. Norton's reasoning was that it was a security issue leaving the cloud vault open. The only vault you can use with the new ID Safe extensions is a cloud vault.

As for 'fix this asap', as this is the way Norton has designed it, they feel there is nothing to fix.  There have been many, many, many requests to allow more control over the vault login timeout, but we are only told they will consider it for future versions.

EDIT

There is a work around to help keep the vault open a little longer. See this post.   https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7848511#comment-7848511

And because the only fix is to leave Chrome running  to save logging into vault 100 times a day  ,  is precisely why after 14 years i uninstalled it for good .  Was the worst decision and update they ever forced on us . Thankfully i only had 50 days left on my sub .

And because the only fix is to leave Chrome running

You can actually close the browser, and just the background apps, like ID Safe will remain open.

Not in my experience . Once Chrome is properly quit out of for cleaning etc  .. then  you have to log in over and over and over again.  After logging in for about the 10th time, i got so fed up i got rid of it . Such a shame as the old vault was brilliant .

Have you enabled the setting in Chrome to keep background apps running when you close the browser? That is what my comments are referring to.

No one is claiming this as any fix. Just a way to help keep the ID Safe vault logged in through a work day.

Hi Peter

I restored from a back up to try it but it just made chrome  continue to run again as well,  and   after I unticked it in the taskbar to stop chrome .... it signed me out .  Useless .

Anyway enough  messing about I'm moving on to another  suite . This one is finished with the stupid update .

Thanks though .
