Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

So as many others, I was forced to upgrade my Firefox and consecutively, my Norton product too, which disabled the Norton vault functionality. I spent hours reading various forums and sites trying to get it back. Haven't succeeded yet. I also tried the chat support two times and also czech hotline, but they still repeat the same - it is not supported, use Chrome...

I tried to downgrade Firefox to version 44, later to 42, 40, 39 and even 38 (all what they call clean install). And I also fully removed the newest Norton version and installed v 21.7.0.11 with all the possible updates (updates, fixes, restarts, updates, fixes, restarts, updates, shutdown, cold start...). I thought this all could do the trick.

So now, I have Norton Internet Security v 21.7.0.11 and Forefox v 39.0.3 which should be compatible. I have the Norton toolbar plugin installed and allowed in the browser ( v 2014.7.12.35) but it doesn't show up. Norton says it is installed for Firefox, but disabled.

I have already spent days and nights trying to fix this issue. In the end, the czech hotline (the woman there honestly had no clue about what is possible and what not - talking about firefox upgrading itself anyway if I downgrade...) suggested doing system restore (few days back when it still worked) - but I know it is not suggested in general...

First of all, I would like to ask, is it even possible get the working combination of FF and Norton back (any versions)? I might be doing something wrong...

Second, if everything failed, should I still try the system restore (anyone who has tried it and it work for them?)

Thank you for the help in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Oh, by the way, the working FF version was 34 and sadly don't remember the version of NIS (but for sure older than the v 21.7.0.11) - the only thing that kept me from upgrading both products was Norton toolbar functionality - need it for my work and daily routines.

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

There is no way to get the vault functioning from the Toolbar in Firefox. There is no combination that will work.

There is an explanation in a post by Tony Weiss at the top of this Toolbar forum.  https://community.norton.com/en/forums/identity-safe-limited-compatibili...

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

There is no combination that will work.

Wait... Two days ago, I had FF version 34 and some older version of NIS (probably one of those before v21) and it DID work. So there is some combination... I only need to figure out which one.

I am sory, I am really confused here. What am I missing?

Well last possible solution is the system restore (the hotline suggested), but I guess it will only mess things up. Oh yea, probably still worth trying cause it cannot be worse than it is... (Uninstall and clean install of Norton, FF, if things go wrong)

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

Because of the security problems with old versions of Firefox I do not recommend going back to an older version.  I am using Firefox 45 and I am using the built in Firefox password manager until Symantec  finally comes out with a compatible password manager.  The Firefox password manager is pretty good.

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

Thanks for your input, PaulGo, I know any downgrade is not recommended. However being left without a vital function I used to rely on within my job and daily routines... made me honestly a bit desperate. So I tried everything possible and even impossible, read hundreds of pages and barely slept... I don't give up easily, but I see I don't really have a chance. It is possible to get any previous version of FF, but can only get NIS 21, which obviously doesn't work with any of the older/newer versions of FF I tried (and yes, I do realize the security risk).

By the way, the combination that worked for me (before things went wrong) was FF 34 and NIS 19.9.

So being defeated and really upset, I guess there's no other way but trying to get a third-party product to manage my logins. I don't really trust those things, the only reason I ever started using the Norton Identity Safe was it was part of the AV software (which I trusted)... I am not fond of using the browser password manager as I have always been told "not safe".

Is there any third-party product, which is as much similar to NIdS as possible (logins, multiple IDs for one site, credit card details), without any cloud store, you have good experience with? I can google for the products, but guess Norton users will already have some fav programs or tips. Also any of those programs which would be able to import Norton .dat or .csv file? I am quite sure I have a few hundred entries there and manually copying every single of them....

Thanks for your time.

Oh, by the way, I am also very dissapointed with the czech norton hotline... The lady I talked to had barely any knowledge about the FF and Norton Identity Safe. =( I guess all I needed to know was: No, you cannot get the working toolbar back for the FF, because you cannot get old NIS version (let's put aside the security risk).

Thanks for the help in advance again.

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

Thank you for the hint, the LastPass product looks promising. Downloaded, installed and setup within few minutes. Seems to be very intuitive and works fine (at least the few tries I had). Gonna try to import the NIS data now, thanks for the link.

The only problem is... if Symantec ever fixes their product, I won't be eager to switch back... So far the Norton Identity Safe was the main reason to stay with Norton. (I had some billing problems last year, they kept blocking my subscription money while the auto-renewal wasn't performed. Spent days on phone, chatting with support, it took weeks before it was fixed.)

Now again, the support was really poor, different people giving different information and all suggesting just: use Google Chrome (are they paid for that, jeez!).

At least the Norton community is nice and helpful. Thank you for the patience, guys.

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

Hello

You are very welcome. Well, the new Toolbar with Identity Safe might work very well also. You should turn off automatic renewal. You can find the products much cheaper in stores and reputable online sites. We tell every one to turn it off and leave your credit card information off of the billing area.

Don't forget that Norton is a security program, so you will know that the Identity Safe information will be secure.

Thanks.

Re: Latest working Norton and Firefox versions?

Yes, I turned off the auto-renewal right after my payment issue was solved.

Don't forget that Norton is a security program, so you will know that the Identity Safe information will be secure.

Which is exactly the reason I started using it and why I didn't want any other products.

Oh, and I succeeded importing the NIS data into LastPass. I tried the way described in the provided link, but it didn't really work. Instead, this worked (they suggested this in the instruction):

Norton Identity Safe allows exporting passwords as plain text in a CSV file. Once you export the CSV file, ensure that a blank line is inserted between the first and second line to correctly import your data.

You can then go to your LastPass Icon > My LastPass Vault > More Options > Advanced > Import > Generic CSV file and choose the Norton Identity Safe file.

Hopefully some other users might find this handy.
