Limited internet access with SmartFirewall

I purchased Windows 10 laptop in January and installed Norton Security starter. All was fine until 12th Feb and I now get limited (actually non) internet access. The internet is fine on all my other devices. I have tried the usual restart of router/laptop and lots of the suggested internet fixes including disabling the settings in Smartfirewall one by one and also resetting the firewall and reinstalling Norton. The only way I can get full internet access is to remove Norton completely. I have done twice now to prove the case and I am now reliant on Windows defender. I have automatic updates on and am thinking that there may have been an update that has caused this. Is there a way of finding out.

Re: Limited internet access with SmartFirewall

Did you register your Norton product on the new computer, or were you still running in trial mode?

Was there another security product trial installed on the new computer? You need to fully remove that trial with the removal utility for that software.

If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Re: Limited internet access with SmartFirewall

Thanks for the reply. It was a new build without any security other than windows defender. I purchased Norton and installed and registered it directly on the laptop. I will look at the fast start thread.

Re: Limited internet access with SmartFirewall

Did you do a clean install of Win 10 after you got the Laptop?

If not, how did you get a new laptop without a trial security program? Even just being on the computer can cause issues when you go to set up your own security program.

Re: Limited internet access with SmartFirewall

Hello Peter

If you get a custom made laptop, you can get it without anything installed on it other than drivers etc. Of course it matters who makes the computer. All the computers that I have had over the years never had a trial security program on it. I'm still on Win 7, but that's how my computers come.

Thanks.
