On-Line Backup A Piece of Crap

Just purchased and installed a new HP system.  Previous system was taken out (fried mother board) by a lightning strike.  Trying to restore or download (not sure which option is the best) files and the product takes hours and does SQUAT!  No messages, no files, no ANYTHING.  I think I got scammed out of a lot of $ for this typical Norton junk.  Does anyone have any clue how this software MIGHT work?

If anyone asked me what I would recommend to backup one's computer and data I would emphatically say buy Norton Ghost.

Why anyone should want to backup their data online is beyond me,it is far quicker and safer to whack it onto an external drive.

That way there is no problem with recovering the whole pc or just the data.

Hello Chuck,

Based on the info given its working correctly at the moment. The restore may take awhile to process since there is far more involved than downloading the content. Since Norton Online Backup uses incremental technology it has to grab all the pieces of your data from the various dates backed up. That can be up to 90-days worth of data it has to comb through. Once it has them it then compiles them into a download package. That is then downloaded to your computer and unpacked into the destination requested. We also can't forget that the data is encrypted using 256 AES encryption which is another reason its not a 1 to 1 download.

Once you start the restore make sure you don't cancel it though. Let it run till it finishes. Otherwise it will have to restart from square one due to each restore job being unique.

If you do encounter errors please contact support or feel free to reach out to me via private message. Please ensure to provide details of the error you're encountering if you do.

Re: On-Line Backup A Piece of Crap

My laptop fried that I had on-line back up on and was told I had to re-install it and add this new computer to the program. Unfortunantly all my files were associated with the old computer and now says that that computer is not on line,  really I didn't know that!  Anyway, after several times talking to Support they finally asked me to give permission for their support team to access my information and determain best way to re-store the files. Now three weeks later still have not heard word one from support, no email that they got my permission or that they are working on a fix for me. When and IF I ever get my files back, will not re-new my subscription to Norton On-line. SO ver disappointed!
