Live Update query

Please bear in mind my illiteracy regarding matters affecting my pc.  I can follow clear instructions (usually) and today I turned on my pc to get an error message 3048,3.  Okay, I thought , just go into my Norton and follow instructions which did seem fairly clear when I read them.  But I failed at the first hurdle, i.e. to open Live Update.  The only Live Update I can find tells me that it is up to date and it won't let me click on anything.  I can see that my set-up shows I have Automatic Live Update but if that is the case why did I get an error message, the resolution of which required me to run Live Update message.

Am I making any sense?  Can anyone advise?  Thank you.

Hi Annieliz,

Please follow the instructions in the following clickable link:

If there is any part you can follow or are unsure of, please tell us where that occurs and we'll try to walk you through it to make it clearer.

Re: Live Update query

I apologise for the delay in thanking you for your kind help.  I did eventually resolve this issue with your kind help and I am most grateful.  I have been away for a few weeks or I would have displayed better manners.  I followed the instructions and seemingly resolved the problem.  However today the same problem occurred (i.e. the 3048,3 error message).  Oh dear, I thought, here we go again.  I can see myself having to follow the "if the problem persists" instructions but I never even got there.  Sailed through the Live Update thingie this time and got struck into the "Update Virus Definitions" instructions.  I patiently waited while the 35 minutes ticked by after I had pressed save but this time when it had completed I got the message "The signature of 20160206-002-v5164.exe is corrupt or invalid".  Now I am completed flummoxed,  I clicked on Learn More which took me to a Microsoft Windows site about downloading files from the Web.  I have Windows 7 by the way.  I hate myself for being so ignorant.  I am retired now and we did not have pcs while I was at school but I do my best to find out what I need.  But I have to confess I really don't understand technical terms of any kind.  So I am again hanging my sorry head and asking for advice.  I rely on my pc so much.  Thanking anyone who can help in advance.

Re: Live Update query

Hi Annieliz,

Sorry to hear you are having more problems.

I have gone ahead and downloaded the newest defs from the Intelligent updater and have seen the following:

It appears there is a situation with the signature for the download - please note this is on today's defs and yours occurred on yesterday so it appears to be a on going situation.

Can someone else verify that this is occurring for them also?  I am on Win 7 64 bit, NSBU  v 22.5.5.15 and using IE 11.

I will report this  - but remember it is the weekend!

Re: Live Update query

I have tried running Update Virus Definitions again but got the same result as yesterday.  Will try again tomorrow to see if it has been fixed.

Re: Live Update query

FWIW ....no "corrupt or invalid" message from FF44 or Chrome48 .....YMMV

Re: Live Update query

Oh dear Annieliz..don't bother trying to fix. Just uninstall and reinstall, you will get a lot of updates all at once but just keep running update manually until it says none required. You will be right upto date, then turn off auto update, I have never used it, always update manually, I do this as soon as I've booted laptop up and waited till everything has loaded, and if hard drive light shows its accessing the hard drive wait until it's stopped then it will or should download all updates etc in a minute if everything is green you're go to go.
