Livid - Where's my download?

I just purchased Norton Antivirus 2009 because my pc is festooned with browser hijacks that I just can't seem to rid myself of. I purhcased well over three hours ago and I have gotten zero information on my purchase. No order number, nothing, just a hit on my bank account for 50 dollars give or take that I spent on getting it. I cannot get through to customer service because the chat option is not pulling up and there seems to be no readily available email to verify to the status of my order. I am furious. I'm overseas so I am unable to call, and I can't seem to navigate through the site to get in touch with a person. That's all I want. A PERSON. Someone to tell me where my download is and what I need to do to get it.

I feel like I just flushed 50 dollars down the toilet. If anyone can help that would be great because it seems at this point all Symantec is efficient at is taking my money.

Re: Livid - Where's my download?

If your Browsers are Hi-Jacked, then why did you Buy "Norton AntiVirus" Online?  I would have suggested going in to your local computer shop or a Mega-Store, such as P.C. World, and Bought it.

I would suggest N.I.S. 2009 as it offers more Protection.  Do you have any other Anti-Virus Software on your computer?

Re: Livid - Where's my download?

Well, for starters, I'm in Crete (I just moved here), and I'm on an Asus Netbook without a cd drive so I can't go buy anything anywhere. I felt that downloading was the best way to go. Also I'm not sure if I'm using the proper terminology. When I get on the internet and go to various sites it'll say that it's transferring data from other sources that aren't the sites I'm trying to access, thus tying up my connection. I'm not really a tech guy so forgive my ignorance please.

I think I did buy the Internet Security 09 actually. In any case I'm looking for some help in tracking down how to acquire what I purchased. In the past when I've purchased other software for download it was available immediately, and I know they've hit my account for the money so I'm very frustrated with the situation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, -m-,

What is your Operating System and Service Pack, e.g. Windows X.P.; 03?

Re: Livid - Where's my download?

Please don't panic, it is easily sorted out.  Trying to do anything with such malware on your system is problematic.  Once we get some information on your system, get it cleaned out a bit so that NIS can even be downloaded and work properly, customer service will be able to solve the activation problems.

Please download the free version of Malwarebytes here http://www.malwarebytes.org disconnect from the internet, disable system restore, and run a full scan.  When the download window comes up, it might be wise to save it as another name, as some malware is crafted to recognize antimalware downloads.  When it installs, go into the Malwarebytes program and change the .exe file to the same name.  It should then run.

You will be able to download the trial version of NIS here which we want to get back on your machine as soon as the MBAM program has cleaned it up.  http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/nis09/

If you have had any other antivirus program on your computer prior to Norton use this program to uninstall any remains before attempting to download Norton.

Well for one thing you are not alone! There is another user who has posted here and who said he was on Crete so if you do a search on Crete you should be able to locate his message and maybe get some local help!

Could you help us by saying where you downloaded from -- was it the Norton Store like here? If so it is actually operated by a third party -- Digital River who many companies use to act for them.

I'm not sure of the exact procedure when you go to their store but I would expect them to complete the order and then send you an email containing a download link and giving you the activation KEY. Did you get that? If not check your spam filtering including back on your ISP (I just found an important system message from one of my ISPs held back in the spam filter of their own webmail location!)

If you have not received that and your email system is working OK then contact the Norton Store rather than trying to contact Symantec direct.

Let us know about this and the other information requested by others here and as suggested download the trial version of the version you purchased:

You can download the free trial versions from this webpage on the Symantec website

You can install that and use it without having an activation KEY for 15 or 30 days (depends on the version and where you get it from!) and then when you do sort things out with the site you bought from and they give you the activation KEY you don't have to download again but just use the Activate Now link on the installation.

It's important for you to make up your mind on N360 vs NIS 2009 since they are priced differently I think and so you may need to do some negotiating if you want to change your mind. N360 is very much for the fit and forget user who does not want to tweak and includes a simple back up program and some other utilities although to be honest I prefer to purchase dedicated software if I think I need it.

N360 might be a good solution on a netbook but both N360 V3 and NIS 2009 and later are light footed and have a small footprint.

One reason for thinking seriously about NIS 2009 however is that a new version usually comes out about October -- likely to coincide with WIN 7 ? -- and you will be entitled to a free upgrade to the 2010 version for the duration of your 2009 sibscription to NIS. I mention this because you may be able to upgrade your netbook to Windows 7 and from what I've heard so far Windows 7 runs better than VISTA or XP on netbooks with 1GB of RAM ..... FWIW

Hear from you.

Just to reassure you on this point, modern web pages load many different components from many different sites.  Advertisements and images are just a couple of things that may not actually be coming from the specific site you are visiting.  It is normal and nowadays almost always the case that third-party sites will load content along with the primary site you are viewing.  This activity, assuming you are still able to get to sites that you type into the address bar, would not, in itself, be a cause for worry.
