Localization not accurate, random name given to devices

I'm looking on my norton account and find to big problems on devices protected by Norton

1. When installing Norton on computers it give some id with letters and numbers wich are not the one of the device (seems to be randoms id) or with my name and 10 followed by a number. As I manage few computers from my family and mine (around 15), it's quite impossible to find which norton ID is linked to which computer. Worse it seems that I've two time the same compuetre on the screen.

2. Actually ther's only 2 computers and two smartphone online but on the screen I've 6 on line (espcialy the four I've at home offline from two weeks (2) or for more than one month (2).

3 Localization show my phone at my old home 2 days ago but I was 200km from this point!

I've ask some years ago to have the point 1 corrected asap (ability to gibe a name when installing norton on device and not let norton to choose a random name)

Hi barca_4943_fr,

I'm not sure this will help, but if you go to each individual PC, you can select Help > About for the main screen and it will display the name of the system.

The name is sometimes my name with 10 and a numeber after and not the real name of the computer.

As yank notes, those strange names will be noted when you go to the Norton Security product and click on Help - About. Then you can find that name on the Norton web site, and you will be able to change the name to something useful.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Localization not accurate, random name given to devices

The difficulty is that when installing norton on devices, I've not updated the name to the real one and now, it's difficult to found the relation between both, But the real problem is the way used by norton to name devices. Wheb you've few devices to maintain , it will be easier to give a real name to each when installed and not BB10_3 when installing the third PC. And that's when the time stamp is used, and not the random names.

If you forget to change the name asap after installeing noton, you're fired.

And this not explain the other problem i?ve.

In order for the locate to display the correct location, the device must be online - was it online at the time you were 200km away?

FWIW, Norton usually picks up the PC's device name as shown in System > About > Device Name  I have heard of folks changing the device name there (Rename this device) and it being picked up by Norton.

Re: Localization not accurate, random name given to devices

Are you sure of the date that is shown beside the phone's location? If you are looking at the information while on your phone, there was an issue where the mobile version of the Norton Account web site was showing the location history in a reverse order. ie The oldest Locate was shown at the top of the list. You had to scroll down to see the most recent locates.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
