This Longtime Norton fan is giving up...

I've grown tired of Norton's indifference toward us FF users using ID Safe, so I finally gave up. If any of you are like me, I found the switch to LastPass much easier than expected (export IDSafe, import to LastPass), and after a month, I've found that I now much prefer it to IDSafe and I can use my preferred browser, Firefox.

If you are interested in LastPass, use this link: https://lastpass.com/f?18080322 (disclaimer: I'll get a free month of premium subscription for every two folks that register if you use that link, if you prefer not, just drop the /?18080322)

Well, I am unhappy with Norton, too.

The bug is existing for months and it doesnt seem that Norton pays correct attention to fix.

I'm about ready also.  Lets remember it doesn't work with Edge either.  Apparently, Symantec has way too much money and a few small subscribers are irrelevant.  Maybe its time for a class action suit to get our money back.  Its very sad when a company gets so large that they forget their roots.

Since Edge currently does not have the ability to use extensions no password manager can work with it.

And it isn't a bug.  As Symantec has stated, "Firefox removed support for binary XP-COM APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that Norton was using to secure the communication between the Norton product and the Norton extension for Firefox."  They are having to design a new Identity Safe that is compatible with what Firefox allows, and still maintain the security of the vault.  It is taking some time to do this.  If Norton was abandoning Firefox, they would simply announce that they are ending support for the browser.

If I were CEO of this organization, it would be a top priority to get it fixed!!!   No excuses.  Subscribers are footing the bill and deserve to get what they paid for.

I had to join the community to add one more complainer to this forum.  My workaround is to use Chrome for the web sites where I need to logon.  It works fine for me, but I continue to use FF for everything else.  My strong suggestion for Symantec is to extend the subscription expiration date to all Identity Safe users by the number of days that it has not worked with FF.  They can tell who these users are because the Identity Safe Vault is stored in their cloud.  If they would do this, they might be able to avoid a class action lawsuit.

I now am using Chrome after 12 years of FF.  I was using Chrome for Identity Safe too for secure sites as you were, FF for everything else. Then I tried LastPass, much better than Norton's Safe. So for the New Year and going forward, I'm using Chrome and LastPass. Both of these companies keep up with their software updates and bug fixes while not losing business.

Since Identity Safe was key for me staying with NAV, I am switching to Kapersky for my antivirus needs. It's lighter on resources and we use it where I work. Oh,  where I work I'm the CIO so guess what companies I will not be recommending when asked by my peers?

Please remember to run the Norton Removal Tool before installing Kaspersky and good luck.

Thanks.

Re: This Longtime Norton fan is giving up...

I find it baffling that some people give up the whole subscription just for identity safe. Going from this logic, that means they got Norton just for Identity Safe? Identity Safe in itself is a free standalone that's offered even if you don't have a subscription.

Hello Xlee

You are correct. I have read customers say many times that they bought Norton products because it said it supported Firefox and the Identity Safe. It's still all available if they want to use the round about way of getting to the Identity Safe. Customers can still use Norton, Firefox and use a substitute password manager. I guess their point is that it all has to work all the time.

Thanks.

While the last two comments are correct, they completely miss the point.  Why can other companies be up to speed on on a password safe?  Why do I need to add another program to my computer to have a password manager?  Simple solution to ending this ongoing  complaint session----Fix the Damn Problem!!!

Read this and research; this is not a trivial fix nor is it isolated to just Norton. Use LastPass or KeePass; I am using KeePass. I do not have it sync or send anything to the cloud and keep it as a local vault on my PC until Norton has theirs working again.
