Lost all my toolbars after reset

I stupidly followed advice on a forum to reset my IE11. Now I have no toolbars! Ni Norton toolbar - no Favourites for tabs.

It's been a very long time since I had to do all this - will some kind soul please take pity on me and tell me what to do??

Always at a weekend!!!!!!!!!

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

and it gets worse. When I open a new tab, it take me to the Bing Search page.  Edited at 14:56 to add And it's also removed my AD-Blocker. I can't remember what I had (free - icon something like ADW?) and the first one I found when I searched had a similar name with Plus on the end. Bing blocked it as a dodgy site,

That's the last I'll do today without my trusted Norton Safe Search,

Click on the Settings - Manage Add ons for IE. Then click Find More Toolbars and Extensions. Then search for the extensions you want to add.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Getting there but in a panic - lots to do on t'internet. I've gone to IE Tools > Manage Add-ons and enabled the ones I want but every time I open a new tab, there's Bing. Continuing to try to sort it.

If you can tell me how to get rid of Bing, I'll be a happy bunny!

Edited at 15:12 to add    Just disabled it in the same place. Lunch then restart & post the outcome - thanks

On the Manage add ons page, click on Search Providers on the left. Click on the one you want as default, and click on Set as Default button at the bottom right of the page. If you do not see the one you want, click on the Find more Search providers at the bottom left.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

Hello Taffy

In Norton's Firewall, I found Bing listed there and blocked it so it can't get to the internet.. I don't like Bing either.

Thanks.

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

Good morning (here) Peter and Floplot.  I'm finally at 99% of what I had before, the main thing being that my Norton toolbar is back.  But I'm still haunted by Bing. Here's what I've done:

Tools>Manage add-ons>Search Providers: enabled Norton & made default. Disabled Bing.
That didn't work so I went back in and deleted Bing - this didn't work.

Went to Norton Firewall and changed Bing to Blocked. Bing screen on new tab still there so I went to this Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17297/windows-internet-explorer-11-search-get-browsing-suggestions

Nothing there that I thought to be relevant but this caught my eye: "To turn off AutoSearch 1.Open the desktop, and then select the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar. 2.Select the Tools button, and then select Internet options.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Browsing, select the Do not search from the Address bar check box."

I do not have a "Do not Search from the Address Bar" check box! So the current position is that my IE11 is now working as before except when I click on New Tab I get this screen, clearly a remnant of Bing:

Anything else I can do please? Thanks for your help so far! Kept me sane.

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

oh, and I'm not sure if this is related but I now get this warning lots of times. Previously it usually came if e.g. I'd downloaded something from a site that I visit only infrequently:

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

For the new tab issue, change your home page settings as below. That will give just a plain blank page.

For your question on secure content. Click on the link What's the risk. That will explain it and then you can decide what you want to allow.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

Hello Peter.  I did as you suggested and on first opening IE11 it was fine but the new Tab still went to Bing.

Then I saw the line below your red arrow (Start with Home Page) - Tabs. I clicked on that and saw "when a new tab is opened, open:". I chose 'your first home page' and Bing finally disappeared.

Regarding secure content, I went back to Internet Options > Security. After looking at lots of the available options I went to > Custom level  > Miscellaneous > Display Mixed Content. I searched if this was safe - it is, it seems so I clicked enable and that's got rid of the warning. If I click on a dodgy site, Norton warns me as did some program in Microsoft. Couldn't find out which but it wouldn't let me continue.

So thank you both for your time, knowledge, and help. Much appreciated.

Re: Lost all my toolbars after reset

Hello Taffy

I believe that there are perhaps Bing Services that can be shut off. I think I also went to the Bing Folder and deleted whatever I could.

Thanks.
