lost files following Norton Clean

Hello, I ran Norton clean about 2 weeks ago and recently discovered it had deleted several Numbers files that were records of work-related activity. I had it set to only move files to Trash but nothing was located in the trash bin. Is there a way to recover these files? They apparently did not back up to iCloud. I cannot seem to find a location on my Mac where it might have sequestered these files and no idea why it would delete them. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
