Mac Tonic

Is Mac Tonic a threat?  I did not download it and I can not uninstall, either (whether clicking/dragging to trash, or via launchpad.)  I just downloaded NS Premium and ran a full scan, but that Mac Tonic is still there.  One research article says it is a threat and just the opposite on another research site.  I feel it IS a threat bc I did not download it.  Appreciate any help you can give.

Re: Mac Tonic

It is a PUA (potential unwanted application) developed by PCVARK.  You don't need to install any other apps to remove this PUA, please read this blog to remove it manually: https://www.securemacos.com/remove-mac-tonic-from-mac-os-x/

Re: Mac Tonic

Hello MizArrow. Get the free version of Malwarebytes for MAC, install and run. It plays well with Norton products installed and will remove things Norton doesn't specifically look for.

Cheers

Re: Mac Tonic

Thank you!.  I'm really surprised/pissed that Norton Security didn't remove it when running the full scan.  Grrrrr

Re: Mac Tonic

It looks like you have picked up a PUP, a Possibly Unwanted Program. While they are annoying, they do not cause damage to your system. Some people actually want the 'Features' offered by these programs. They are usually downloaded alongside a legitimate download when you do not uncheck the option for the additional download.

Norton products concentrate on malware that can damage your system, that is why some PUPs are not detected.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
