Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

I used Malwarebytes  with NIS 2009 no problems. I recently upgraded to 2010 with which i am very pleased brilliant set up Norton. At first Malwarebytes operated perfectly but recently it stops halfway through and windows gives the option to close the programme.

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

Hello thecleaner

Welcome to the Norton Community

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the free version of Malwarebytes? Have you updated the program before you tried to use it? Perhaps you have some malware on  your computer which is preventing the program from running completely.

What operating system and service pack are you using? Which 2010 product did you update to and what is the version number of that product that you have now? Thanks.

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

Hi thanks for your help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Malwarebytes and run most recent updates but still have the same problem. My operating system is Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 and NIS 2010  17.7.0.12  thanks again for your time.

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

Can you disable the Auto-Protect from your Norton product for temporary purpose, and then check whether the scan from Malwarebytes completes?

If this works, you can try adding the executable for the Malwarebytes to the Scan Exclusion list.

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

Hello thecleaner

If the free version of malwarebytes can not complete, I think that is a visible sign that you have some sort of infection on your computer which is blocking malwarebytes from completing the scan.

I would definitely pursue to find out if your computer is definitely clean before I would add malwarebytes to the exclusion list or turn off auto-protect yet to test to see if it can complete. That's my opinion.

if OP checks / tests to see if scan completes ...

should OP disconnect from Internet prior to Disable / Turn-Off Auto Protect & remember to reverse the sequence ...?

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

Hi  yogesh - mohan  & floplot thank you both for your help. Sadly i still have the problem. Ive been looking in the NIS history section and  C:\PROGRAM FILES\ MALWAREBYTES' ANTI - MALWARE has been blocked with the TARGET being C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ Engine\17.7.0.12\ccsvchst.exe   My apologies for my lack of computer knowledge but is it Norton that is blocking the scan.

FWIW

every MBAM Scan populates the same data on my box..

Norton Product Tamper Protection is just protecting itself ...Not Blocking/Stopping a Complete Scan... as I run a Complete Scan even though Norton Product Tamper Protection is protecting itself

Re: Malwarebytes full scan will not complete.

A very good discussion is here.  A few systems seem to have this problem.  It seems to depend on the version of Norton, it should be 2010 17.7.0.12 and you should have the latest updated version of MBAM which is 1.46.  If you still have an issue, turning off auto-protect does seem to solve the problem.

Malwarebytes, as mentioned, should be the free version, not the paid version.
