Re: Mass email virus

Hi ijoe45,

It is probably not a virus.  Your email account was probably compromised by someone who guessed or stole your password.  You need to immediately change not only the password, but all other information that can be used to access the account, such as secret questions, etc.  The following articles will provide you with the information you need:

Re: Mass email virus

Its just on my main computer. I have a computer at my shop and i don't have a problem there or I can go to the hotmail web site and no problem.

Re: Mass email virus

Hi ijoe46,

You stated that one of your Hotmail accounts was sending spam to your contact list.  That would be the account that has been compromised.  How are you aware of this happening?  Are you actually seeing computer activity and messages in your Sent folder?  Or are you instead only seeing bouncebacks and reports from your victimized contacts?

Re: Mass email virus

I received the same email (I recognize the text). It appeared to come from my cousin, but when we asked him he said he knew nothing about it. I forwarded it onto my service provider as fraud. I just thought you'd like to know you're not alone.

By the way for anyone else, the 'make money at home scheme by checking links' looks like it's coming from inside the US, but is actually from a site outside of the U.S. so be VERY CAREFUL.

Re: Mass email virus

Hi ijoe46,

If you are finding the spam messages in the Sent folder of the email client you use on your computer (NOT in your online webmail Sent folder) then your PC may be infected.  If you have scanned with Norton, and other scanners but have found nothing you might want to post your issue to one of the following free malware removal forums, suggested by delphinium, where trained helpers can use more advanced tools to look for and remove the infection:
