message: need Admin-rights to config

Hi!

I have not found my problem in the forum. I hope my english is not so terrible.

The problem is NIS 2009 shows sometimes the message, that it need Admin-rights to config.

The original-message is: "Um Norton Internet Security zu konfigurieren, müssen Sie sich als Administrator auf diesem PC einloggen."

I work with no admin-rights (simple user). These message will be shown irregular. I dont work with and config in the NIS-Program.

How can this message deleted?

I have Windows XP SP3 with all Patches.

Thanks

Michael

Re: message: need Admin-rights to config

Hi Michael,

That message is shown as a default setting in the Windows which can't be changed. The Norton program requires Administrator rights in the computer for it's functioning to provide you various levels of Security. Norton products have application intelligence baked in, allowing it to make security decisions so that you don’t have to. When you login as Standard User(non-Admin), the Norton program won't have the required rights to run or change the configurations accordingly. That's the reason for the errpr regarding the Admin-rights. You can ignore this error, or otherwise log in as Administrator only and then use the computer. I don't think that there is any other solution apart from changing the User Account to Administrator, and I'll be glad if any one else finds an alternative in this issue.

Re: message: need Admin-rights to config

Michael,

I also routinely run as a limited user.  You do need to log in to an account with administrator privileges in order to configure any settings in NIS2009.  Also, when you do a full system scan you should use an administrator account as Norton can only scan files to which the current user has access, so scanning as a limited user will prevent scanning of system and application files that are denied to that user.

While using a limited account NIS2009 continues to run and protect you, and background tasks such a retrieving pulse updates, etc., continue to function.  You can also pull up Norton's History logs.  The only issue, as you have discovered, is that you cannot change settings.  Using the "Run As..." command, by the way, also does not work.  You must actually login as an administrator.
