The Malicious Software Removal Tool is a legitimate Microsoft application that is usually included with each month's update releases. The tool is safe and runs in the background. However, an MSRT message when you log in is usually a notification to alert you that malware was found during the scan. The notice should advise you how to proceed in cleaning the infection off of your PC.
