More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

Open Norton Security, click on "More Norton", twice, click on the button "Manage My Protection";

Internet Explorer opens and says,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage

What you can try:  button says, "diagnose connection problems"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No such internet problem in this place, and so real problem on other browsers; like I am on same computer now just using another browser.  This feature in Norton Security must be the problem.  No genuine connection problems nor internet problems here; just Norton Security not doing what it should.

Windows Vista s.p.2, laptop 32-bit, wifi at home;

Norton Security v 22.12.0.104, Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16241 update version 9.0.61; also present, Opera version 36, Vivaldi version 1.0.435.46 () (32-bit); and Firefox latest-whateverversion, and latest Comodo Ice Dragon.

Hello. Reboot your computer then, without any browser open, use your Norton dashboard and sign into your account if you haven't done so already. Then refollow the sequence you posted earlier. I followed your sequence and the website opened for me as expected.

I did not really understand the process you described.  I do not know of any Dashboard, mostly.  I kept one browsers open, IE , because that's in which I both signed in to my local vault, and on which I also signed in to my norton account.  Maybe I should try the method again without using IE or any browser, but instead sign in to vault or Identity Safe just through the Norton Security product,, but so far, same stupid looking brower window opened as before when I click on the More Norton button.

...Just now tried again, but only closed all browsers; without any system/machine restart.  Opened N.S., clicked on "Sign in"; used email and Norton password, and signed in successfully; BUT, then clicked on the More Norton button and  was only presented the useless, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and the button, "Diagnose Connection Problems".

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

Hello g_cafe_c Indeed the "Norton dashboard" is the small window which opens when you open Norton from the system tray icon. No confusion intended. Being that you again got the preverbal message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and the button, "Diagnose Connection Problems". Open Internet Explorer then go to the menu above and select "Tools", then "Internet Options". When the IE options dialogue appears select the "Security" tab. Click the long button named "Reset all zones to default". Allow things to change and close IE. Retry the "More Norton" button to see if things progress.

Did what you instructed in resetting I.E.; then used I.E. to sign in to local vault and then closed I.E.

I opened N.S.  ,  saw that I am stilled signed in to my account there, where shows my email address; and clicked the Show More Norton, found the Manage My Protection button and clicked.

SAME THING.  Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage; and the button, "Diagnose connection problems".

NEXT QUESTION:  Can I sign in to my Norton Account through a browser, and do my ordinary account management activities?  Same website or different website?  Manage.Norton.com does not seem to work.  What is the correct address?

Hello

Are you trying to these things using a Windows Administrative Account? Open your Norton program. Click on Help, click on My Norton. That should bring you to your Norton Account.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Try changing your default browser. Test and if it works correctly, reset the browser..

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

floplot,

I sent a response on the topic to "Are you trying to these things using a Windows Administrative Account? Open your Norton program. Click on Help, click on My Norton. That should bring you to your Norton Account"; but I do not find it posted.

I use the local account for the laptop Vista computer.  I do not know if it is administrative or not.  No accounts other than just name I gave when I setup that computer.  As for your instruction on going through the product to get to the correct account for the norton website, I will try going through the product to see if it will bring me to a Management type Norton page.

The new Norton Account web site is     https://my.norton.com  You can access that directly from your browser.

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

I have not caught up with everything yet.

peterweb,  I opened Comodo Ice Dragon version 52, visited my.norton.com, signed in there, and found the account management page or site, so that is encouraging.  This browser is NOT set as the default, and it is a portable edition of the browser.

SoulAsylum, I am not sure what to do to follow your suggestion to set login type to Administrator.  Is this for the machine or is this for Norton Security, and for whichever, where and how?

Is that button, "Manage My Protection" supposed to open my.norton.com and through the default browser?

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

The admin account login is for the machine, Windows login account type. And yes, clicking "manage my protection" should open in the default browser set in windows settings.

(Why the Reply button link not give the quote of the message from SoulAsylum from 16-Feb-2018 of 4:43AM?)

The machine using Windows Vista having Norton Security installed is just a machine I turn on (startup) and then when finished starting up, I just use the machine.  No account to sign in.  Just startup and use.  This is why I do not know what to do with any "admin account login".  I do not know what kind of account is the machine for my use (the ONLY user).

As long as I know now that the More Norton button is supposed to go to my.norton.com, at least I can use any browser to visit that site.

Yes, I AM the Administrator for the computer according to what Control Panel, Accounts, tells me.

I sign in to the Norton Security product using my email address; then open Help, and click on My Norton;

Internet Explorer Cannot Display the webpage, and "Diagnose connection problems" button is shown.

Late reply here. After you click on Reply on the post you want to post, you need to click on the quotes inside balloon icon in the edit controls. That puts the quote from the post.

Reply, and then quote_inside_balloon icon,  and then there another piece in the composition box to click..., just not so obvious so forgot, so had to ask.

SoulAsylum,  I have not tried again what you said, but I will when I have the chance.  MAYBE the problem is in using Windows Vista, and being restricted to poorly performing but up to date Firefox, or when less patient, Comodo Ice Dragon v52; or the not-allowed-to-be-updated Internet Explorer v9.  The problem I described is not happening with the installation on Windows 10 ("desktop" computer); just happens on the laptop with Windows Vista(which uses those Ice Dragon v52, Firefox v_thecurrentversion_ESR, and IE v9).

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

Indeed, IE 9 is very old. Even Microsoft sites won't open when that version is used no matter what version of Windows is being used.

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

This is only a partial or even "temporary" solution, because ideally, I would want I.E. to open the management site.

I tried Internet Options in I.E. and added my.norton.com to Trusted sites; restarted machine; and opened N.S. and the  More Norton section and hit Manage My Protection button.  NoGood.  Same "cannot display the page" message.  So even with Reset of I.E., and adding my.norton... to Trusted sites, I.E. will NOT give me my.norton.com site.  (Yes and I am also still signed in the Identity Safe or my account THROUGH the N.S. product).

I tried setting Vivaldi as default web browser (cannot use their current version on Vista, so is a few revisions older, to be the one still acceptable on Vista).  Restarted machine.  Opened N.S.,... reached the Manage my Norton button, and,... had to wait several seconds,... Vivaldi opened and displayed the my.norton.com site, very well, as well as the site showing me that I'm already signed in.

Back to Internet Explorer:  I also tried just entering the address in Internet Explorer, of my.norton.com, and same "cannot display" message was given.  Looks to me like I.E. version 9 on Vista WILL NOT REACH my.norton.com site.  Other browsers will reach the site.

Members, thanks for the suggestions what to try.  Still not the ideal solution but a workable one.

Re: More Noton - Manage My Protection - Cannot Display Webpage

g_café_c The real issue is that IE9 is very old and websites don't support it anymore. Some don't even support IE10 and will give the same issues you were seeing. Your solution is a good one, using a different browser. Although an upgrade to another OS is another possibility since Vista is beyond its support lifecycle.

Hello G C C

Have you tried getting to the site by opening your Norton product --click on Help-- click on MyNorton.  That will bring you to your Norton Account if you are using a Windows Admin Account.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Yes; tried that.  It does not work.  Same message of page cannot be displayed.

The solution seems to be ,  change the default browser to something other than Internet Explorer.
