Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

With Firefox 11.0 hours away from being released. Will Symantec be prompt in releasing a compatibility update for Norton Toolbar/IPS?

It has already been leaked but was removed from the Mozilla d/l FTP server hours later.

Hi SGFC,

Please watch forum  for  firefox11 support for Norton Toolbar after the official release of FF11 from Mozilla.

Thanks,

Hi SGFC,

Just to add to Senthil's post,  please wait until you see an update here about compatibility with the new version of Firefox BEFORE you install the latest release.  This will avoid the Norton Toolbar issues we see here every time a new version is released.

Thanks,  Dave.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

The fact that the Norton Toolbar is working with Firefox 11 beta builds is interesting, but it should be remembered that until the final release of Firefox 11 and an announcement from Norton that the toolbar is compatible, Firefox 11 is not officially supported.  If you depend on a working toolbar, it is best to wait until everything is officially in place before installing Firefox 11 RTM.

Firefox 11.0 has been released unofficially. No not the leak from the other day. Yes, yes I know wait for the official release.

Any way I went to add-on's in Firefox 11.0 and just clicked Enable next to Norton Toolbar and IPS and they *appear* to work.

According to THIS POST, Firefox 11 is delayed at least "a day or two".

As soon as we're compatible, we'll post an announcement on these forums like we have done with the previous releases of Firefox.

The link posted above my last post contained this information 03/12/12:

"UPDATE: The security bug reported by ZDI is one we had already identified and fixed through our internal processes. This eliminates the need for us to delay this week’s releases, and we will be shipping them later today. However, in order to understand the impacts of Microsoft’s “Patch Tuesday” fixes, we will initially release Firefox for manual updates only. Once those impacts are understood, we’ll push automatic updates out to all of our users."

------

So Firefox 11.0 has been released for manual update. It'll be automatic after MS delivers it's monthly updates.

Edit - MS just released it's monthly updates.

The link in the previous post is broken, here is the corrected link:

Of course, I'm not personally advising anyone to upgrade their Firefox until such time as Norton is officially supporting Firefox 11.

Not sure why MOZILLA FIREFOX RELEASES updates frequently.... They can instead combine the new updates and release as a new version with a time gap of atleast three months.---- This may cause inconvenience for many programs, which needs to update every time very frequently. The final stand is that it causes inconvenience for many Firefox users.. Some people may also think of changing the web browser to Google Chrome.

Just got  auto pop up for Firefox to update..... What point are we at now for the tool bar?

EDIT1 - Just ran LU manualy and was asked to restart. Ran again for 2 minor updates and then states completed. Is it safe to assume at this point that FF 11 update can be installed without issue?

Thanks

EDIT2 - Dammit, after restart FF must have auto updated or something as the Tool BAR is gone.......... My god im so **bleep** tired of this happening.  What is going on?

EDIT3 - I tried another reboot. After tried manualy running LU again, it found small update.... Tool Bar back..... very frustrating, yet all thus far on this machine..(2 more to go) seems to be working.

GFL noted he got the Firefox patch. I STILL don't have the patch yet. Just checked with LiveUpdate. But it doesn't matter since I don't use Firefox.

Now Firefox is running OK and toolbar is here but i just have clarification questiom cause acording to Tim's post we should have

Norton Toolbar2012.5.2.5

Symantec Intrusion Prevention10.1.0.68 - 2

but i have Norton Vulnerability Protection 10.1.068 - 1 instead while toolbar has correct version so i just checking if it's the way it should be ?

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

It is unfortunate that Norton has to chase these monthly updates from Firefox. I'm sure the engineers have better things to do than have to run compatibility checks every few weeks, then retweak the code.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Hi olegausa,

Just for verification - is your Norton Vulnerability Protection in fact 10.1.068-1 or is it in fact 10.1.0.68-2?

I am trying to verify with Norton now that in fact NVP should be listed for NIS 2012 instead of SIP - although both numbers on my systems are the same as stated in Tim's post.  Just the names are different between N360 and NIS 2012

Was starting to update from FFox 5.0.1 to FFox 11.0. FFox updater indicated that Norton Vulnerability 10.10.68-1 is incompatible  with Firefox 11.0. I didn't continue update. Is Norton Vulnerability 10.10.68-1 now comaptible with Firefox 11.0?

Thanks.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Welcome to the norton community dfc99. Norton vulnerability should be 10.1.0.68.2 for firefox 11.0 so make sure that you run live update itill you have no more updates for you norton program first befoe you update firefox. also check your version of norton to make sure you are at version 19.6.1.8 To check your norton version open norton interface click on support>about it will show you norton version

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Thanks ALF60 for quick reply. I ran Live Update a few times, Norton Vulnerability still shows as version 10.1.0.68.1. in my existing FFox 5.0.1.

I should wait a day maybe? I'm upgrading to FF11.0 so I can get my Norton Toolbar back, and then this problem showed up.

Hopefully you rebooted, ran liveupdate one more time (or until it responded "no more updates available") and then installed FF 11.

Also please look at this post:  http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Attention-Firefox-3-4-5-6-7-or-8-users/td-p/678453 for info concerning your FF 5

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Yes, I did all that but my Norton Vulnerbility version is still 10.1.0.68.1, and I still get this warning when trying to upgrade FFox, so I do not continue to the upgrade.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Hi dfc99,

I 'm getting old and my memory  is not always what it needs to be, but I thought Norton Vulernabilty Protection 10.1.0.68.1 was the NVP for FF 10.01, while the 10.1.0.68-2 was for FF11.

If that is the case it appears to me that you have the NVP for FF 10 in lieu of FF11.  I am curious what happens if you continue to the upgrade?  If by chance the upgrade of FF tio 11 advances the NVP to the correct version.

I am not an avid FF user, but it almost sounds like there could be a corrupution in your FF profile.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Continuing with the Firefox update will not advance the Norton Vulnerability Protection to the correct version.  In fact, doing this may make things even more problematic, as the compatible Norton add-on should be in place prior to updating Firefox.  NIS 2012 needs to be updated to version 19.6.1.8 in order to be compatible with Firefox 11.

Kudos0

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

My NIS 2012 is version 19.6.1.8. My existing FFox 5.0.1 still shows NVP 10.0.1.68-1 even after numerous runs of Live Update. Very strange problem, risky to update to FFox 11.0 until I can solve this odd problem.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Hi dfc99 I have been away from my computer for a few hours I would got back to you sooner. Try this do not use the firefox builtin updater but down load a full version of firefox 10.0 that is supported and install over your firefox 5.01. do not download the latest firefox  and then try to update your norton software going from ff5 to ff 11 may be the problem. To find a place to down load older versions of firefox go to http://www.filehippo.com/download_firefox/11540/ this link takes you to firefox 10.0 full download. when you have firefox 10.0 on your computer  run norton live update and check to see if the norton updated to the latest  NVP number.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Could Symantec please add the ability to move the Norton Toolbar around in Firefox (and IE too)?

In Firefox, ther toolbar is stuck on a row by itself wasting a lot of browser space so I don't use it.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

Hi Yoda,

You can move the Norton Toolbar in IE9.  Please see this article for more details.  -  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153593.

I hope this helps.

Dave.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 & Norton Toolbar/IPS

The Norton Toolbar will only move around on the Menu Bar row, which I normally hide because I don't need it. This approach was recommended by Microsoft IE9 was released.

When using IE9 I only use the Favorites Bar and Command Bar, which happily reside together on one row.

If I enable the Norton Toolbar it occupies a separate row.

If I also enable the Menu Bar, I can move the Norton Toolbar around on the Menu Bar row, but I cannot move it to the Favorites bar / Command bar row. This means I am stuck with an extra space-wasting row I don't want.

What I am suggesting is a true floating, maybe even browser agnostic, Norton Toolbar that the user can put anywhere.

Welcome,

After starting FF did you go to add ons and look in externsions to see that the Norton toolbar and protection extensions had been enabled? They are not automatically enabled in these later iterations of FF.

Hope this helps
