My Auto-protect is off and ...you guessed it, fix is not working

Laptop With Windows 10

Norton INTERNET Security v22.7.0.76

Windows fast start is disabled

Ok so add me to the growing list of Norton INTERNET Security users who have the auto-protect cant be fixed issue.  This happened to me about 10 days ago after I ran a manual live update. Must have bumped me up to the v22.7.0.76. So after the live update was completed I had to restart the laptop which I did. All seemed fine. Had the green check mark on the Norton icon in the system tray. On or about the next day, all off a sudden message comes up saying “auto-protect off, your computer is at risk”. I go to follow the fix process and then get the message saying it cant be fixed. It gave some error message but I cant remember the number.

But when I look at the settings it shows auto-protect set to on, but the button is greyed out.

***Not sure if auto protect really is on and working and the error is a false indicator?

***Or is really auto-protect not working and I’m at risk?

Anyway, I haven’t used the laptop now for the last 10 days in fear that it is at risk.

Hoping there is a fix real, REAL soon as I see lots of people with this issue. Don’t want to do the uninstall/reinstall as that seems to not really do the trick

Norton please give us a real fix soon

Thanks

Official Norton Support Home --- says > If Norton says your computer protection is at risk and Auto-Protect status is Not Fixed after clicking Fix Now, you need to reinstall Norton.

Auto-Protect status is not fixed after clicking Fix Now

Re: My Auto-protect is off and ...you guessed it, fix is not working

thanks for the reply. But as has been noted, the uninstall/reinstall method has been noted to not work. So am I to assume that this is the only "fix" Norton has for this issue? To uninstall and reinstall?

Plus if the auto-protect is off doesn't that make my laptop vulnerable during this process?

as I look on this forum I see so many users with the same issue and that method doesn't work. I have used NIS for a long long time and I like Norton. But I think we really need a fix please

Thank you

Well, if you've tried NRnR Tool....you may try NRnR Tool again from Windows Admin user account or try the Norton Removal Tool.
Or, pull pre-activated install from your Norton account.  Installer will uninstall on first run and install on second run. Then run LiveUpdate several times until no updates found > re-start not under the influence of Fast Startup > repeat.

Re: My Auto-protect is off and ...you guessed it, fix is not working

They say to run their Norton Remove and Reinstall utility NRnR. I tried it and it fixed the problem on my Windows 10 laptop.

so if I were to run the remove and reinstall tool, what kind of information regarding my account would I need to have in order to get it reinstalled?

is your auto-protect still working? I am reading on here that it works and like the next day its back to the red x

Re: My Auto-protect is off and ...you guessed it, fix is not working

The NRnR utility did not work. I tried it 3 times. So then I went to the control panel and and did a complete uninstall. It asked if I was going to reinstall it and if I anted to keep my data. I said no so it would delete everything. That's what I read. Then I reinstalled if fresh from Norton. That worked and it is still working a day later. If you have a Norton account, sign on and download it from there. If you purchased it elsewhere, you will need your product key. That is the only information you need.

Re: My Auto-protect is off and ...you guessed it, fix is not working

We've just released an Auto-Protect HotFix that addresses this error. I recommend that you run LiveUpdate and restart your system as prompted. Once the hotfix is installed, let us know if you're still seeing the Auto-Protect issues. Thanks.

THANKS TONY!!! Of course those of us running windows 10- we still need to disable the windows 10 quick start, correct?

I don't think it would hurt, but it's not required.
