My Norton Account was hacked and bank account wiped out

On November 6 I received an email telling me my Norton needed to be renewed for $387.xx and that was too expensive for me so I decided to cancel. I Bing'ed Norton and got a number to call and I called them. I told Norton I was going to cancel and after short discussion I saw a AI mouse go into my system and start to uninstall my Norton. We talked about it a little and I told them they should tell me they are going to use an AI so I wouldn't be surprised. They continued to uninstall and then they asked me if I wanted a refund of $350.00 and I said yes and then after a few minutes they said to check my account to make sure the refund went through. I opened my bank account and saw that a refund of $3500.00 was there and said there was an error. The next thing I knew the AI showed up in my bank account and it went to $0.00. I asked what was going on and my voice raised and they told me I typed in an error of the refund. I told Norton that I did not type in anything and they began to argue that I did. They pulled up on my screen the coding and asked me to correct the amount C: and I tried but it wouldn't work. They kept arguing and by that time my husband, hearing all this called the bank, they saw $0.00 and put a hold on our account. Also, I was done arguing and hung up on them. I have tried for a week to get ahold of Norton to get this straightened out and I do not find anything for help. The bank said to scrub my computer ( just unplugged it because it has pictures of our daughter who died of COVID a year ago) So now I do not have my desktop, no help, no refund and probably Norton is still trying to keep us active, except today I received another email from Norton saying my subscription is due for another $3XX.XX. How do I contact someone at Norton to get this resolved do they have a Customer Service number? They are on auto pay from my bank and I want to stop the payments.

When you stop your subscription from automatically renewing:

  • Your subscription will continue through the end of your already paid subscription term, after which it will end and not automatically renew.

  • It typically takes a few hours from your request for the change to take effect.

  • Any benefits associated with automatically renewing subscriptions may end when you stop your subscription from automatically renewing.

Along with the bank locking your account, you should look into whether the bank covers you for this kind of scam. You may be able to get them to reverse the payments taken from your account.

Re: My Norton Account was hacked and bank account wiped out

I was really sad to read this. As far as I can tell from your post, you were scammed by someone that was pretending to be from Norton. I don't think anyone at Norton is going to do anything because they weren't involved. There is a lot of text in some of these responses, a lot to read, but that's the bottom line. I agree with @peterweb about contacting your bank.

This link that was posted above will also be very useful to you and help you avoid it happening again:

I just received a legitimate renewal email from Norton. It came from this address: norton@secure.norton.com

This is terrible and they keep fooling people, not just you. Hopefully your bank can help you out.
