N360 Backup issues

I am using N360 for backup.  After restoring a lost folder, I found that N360 was not  backing up the files that I believed I had selected. I was using two different backup sets to backup the same folder to different physical locations.  Is there a flag set on a file after it is backed up? If so, after the first backup set has completed, will the second set backup the file that has the flag set?  Or will the file be skipped?  If this is the case, then how can you get the same backed up file/folder to two different locations?

Where are you backing up to? An external hard drive?

Re: N360 Backup issues

I am backing up both to an extra internal hard drive and an external hard drive, to protect against a catastrophe such as fire.  This is about 15 years of photographs, so I am a little paranoid about protecting them from loss.

Re: N360 Backup issues

Never ever back up to your physical/ internal drive. If your hard drive fails then every thing is gone. Also never leave the external hard drive plugged in 24/7. Plug it in. Run a back up then unplug it. You can always create a new back up with Norton. You can also copy folders and files over yourself to your external drive. Seems like you are looking for a file sync program? Correct?

The OP is backing up to a second hard drive in the computer. That is OK. As they noted the only loss there is if there is a fire or the computer is stolen. They also backup to the external for that eventuality. This assumes the external drive does not get burned in the fire, or stolen.    That is why an online backup is a good extension to any backup plan.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: N360 Backup issues

They are backing up to both. I am aware of this. But backing up to your physical drive is not a good thing. He never spoke of cloud back up either. Not sure if the N360 subscription they have covers that.

They are not backing up to their system hard drive.  They have a second hard drive in the system that they are using for the backup. This is still a valid process to protect from the system HD failing.

Re: N360 Backup issues

Thanks to all for suggestions.  Will digest and think about best way to go.  BTW, I agree that online backup is best (in theory), but I have a relatively slow broadband that would take an ungodly amount of time to complete the BU!
