NAV needs to give people more choice

I have this https : // downloadcrewstore . co . uk/p35294-norton_security_deluxe_2019_3-device_1-yr on laptop and NAV 2017 i think it is on another PC. If you turn off the firewall or do not use default option re performance the icon changes to the red exclamation. People should be able to choose options and still get green OK if they know what they are doing. Also you havev to click the fix now to find what it is and this fixes without asking. Hover/Show what it is/ask if want fixed/not rocket science

I have a firewall and do not need NAV firewall

They also need to give people the choice as to whether every false positive is deleted. Some are quarantined and can be restored but some, which NAV decides are very dangerous, are deleted unless added to.

Both the above nonsensical situations are going on a long time now. Is there any way to edit registry so they do not  flag as at risk?

NAV needs to give choice to people. A step forward in 2019 is when a file is restored there is a button to click to exclude it instead of going all around the GUI

Re: NAV needs to give people more choice

To stop the Firewall warning messages and show the green check mark again, open your Norton Security product and click on the Security pillar, then on Advanced. Hover your cursor over the Firewall line and you will see a link to Ignore. Click that and you will no longer be hassled about the Firewall being off.

The issue with detected files getting deleted or quarantined has been reported many times here. The feeling here is that nothing should ever be fully deleted, but always placed in quarantine. That way they can be retrieved for further analysis or restored if it is known they are absolutely safe.

Re: NAV needs to give people more choice

@peterweb. Thanks for the help re firewall. That is a great tip. I did that on my laptop and got rid of the annoying red exclaim.

That ignore option should be for everything In NAV 2017 i had to turn off performance monitoring or if something like delete temp files is not run the red exclaim mark comes up

Do you know why Norton do not allow everything be kept for analysis. Sometimes it is a file I am testing that gets deleted. I know it may be dangerous and know what I am doing but still Norton deletes. That is really annoying and i would consider changing to another AV. There should be a right click/ add to exclude too. They must be asleep at Norton if they have not figured that out

As I noted above, many users have complained about items getting deleted instead of just quarantined so they can be analysed further. This short coming has been noted to our Norton contacts. No news has been shared with us on why things work this way.

Norton was initially designed as a set it and forget it product for home users that either do not want to have to manually control things, or do not know enough about computers to know what to change in a security product. As we know, there will be many experienced computer users that will use these products, so Norton tries to balance the needs of both.  This, along with your right click suggestion, might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions
