Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

I need to reset my computer to factory settings and I need to download a pre-activated version of Norton Security. I have purchased a Norton Security Deluxe for up to 5 devices and am only using 2 slots. Every single time I download and install the product, even after entering the product key on the download screen, Norton tells me that I have an expired trial version.....WHY????

I never had this problem before. I would login to my norton account, download the software and put it on a USB, then install it after the factory reset. It would go into trial version mode and would give me 15 days to enter my license. The thing is I don't need 15 days from the time of install. How about 2 hours so I don't have to connect my PC to the internet with ZERO firewall protection while I'm activating Norton "Security". I have a paid subscription with more than enough slots so what is the problem here?

It find it ridiculous that Norton wants me to connect my PC to the internet with no firewall or any kind of protection when I have already paid for their product to do that very exact thing.

Is there some solution or a way around this?

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

Hi. If you download your Norton product from your Norton Account, the copy is already activated.

Once downloaded and installed, you just need to run Live Update until no more are found.

Then reboot, and you should be good to go.

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

I've done this twice already and it does not work the way it did with NIS. I download the file from my Norton account page, reset my PC to factory default, and after installing Norton it tells me that I am running an expired trial version.

If you are saying that the installation copy from my Norton account is pre-activated, why is there a need to run Live Update?  What does running Live Update have to do with the process?

Wouldn't all the Live Updates to the product be lost on the hard drive during the factory reset?

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

Why not do the factory reset, then download from the Norton Management site?  I have done this numerous times and after Norton is installed it always automatically activates.

Running Live Update ensures you have all the latest definitions installed.

Why would anyone want to reset their computer and then connect to the internet without internet or firewall protection ??  I've paid for a product and I should be able to use it for its intended purpose.

Then download and save the installer, then activate after.  Simple!

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

Hello

During the time it would take to do it the way Krusty first suggested, Windows firewall and Windows Defender would kick in. Once you have your Norton Security Deluxe set up and installed, then the Windows Firewall and Defender would give over protection to Norton. You wouldn't be without protection.

Thanks.

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

If I wanted to use Windows Firewall and Defender then I can quit buying Norton altogether. However, I would probably just give my money to one of their competitors to get proper protection instead.

You have to connect to the internet to activate the disabled product. That is my problem from the very first post.

Thanks for trying to help, but your recommendations don't work for me. I guess I will have to cut my loses and move to a different product.

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

You would only be covered by WD for the five or so minutes it takes to download and install Norton.

There is no way to have an activated copy to install after a factory reset that I am aware of.  If you find a way please share it with us.

Thanks.

You have to connect to the internet to use Norton  It will be a fully working trial until you activate.  I just don't understand why you believe your machine is so at risk.  If you are behind a router it probably has a firewall to protect you until Norton is up to date.

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

Assuming all you are doing is clicking the "Renew" link in the Norton UI to enter your product key, you don't need an antivirus running as long as you are firewalled.  Being behind a router, or turning on the Windows firewall (it should be on automatically, but it never hurts to verify this before connecting to the internet) is the only protection you need.  You aren't surfing the web, you are connecting directly to Symantec and the firewall prevents anything on the internet from accessing your computer uninvited.

If you refrain from messing around on line while downloading and installing -- as you certainly should -- I don't see the remotest chance of you suffering from not having Norton active while you are updating or installing it.

Most security programs require you to uninstall and run a cleanup tool for any other security program if you change products -- I can give you a link for most -- so you are going to be "unprotected" when you install any of most security programs. And as others have pointed out if you connect through a router you have a first class hardware firewall to protect you against invasions .....

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

Hello OMG

You can d/l the Norton Installer for your program and put it on an external drive which will not be connected to your computer while doing the factory reset.

After reset, connect the external drive and transfer over the Norton Installer which you put on the external and run the program. This will safe the time needed to download the program.

http://www.norton.com/latestns       This will bring you to the version before the latest one. You will have to run live update from that link to get updated. Even with a preactivated version of NS, you will have to run live update to get caught up. You will also have to get the program activated, but it does save the time of downloading it.

Thanks.

OMG

From what I read in your original post, you seem to be under the impression that while you have the trial version installed that you are not protected. This is not true. The trial version is a fully functional version of the program that gives you 15 days to test the program if you have not already purchased it. It gives all the full protection of the activated copy. So when you connect to the internet to complete the activation your system is already protected.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Need A Pre-Activated Norton Installation !!!!

I can appreciate the comments trying to help, but many of you seem to misunderstand the issue or are unfamiliar with network security.

To start, the moment you connect your computer to your home router, any other computer on your home network (whether it is infected or not) can communicate with your PC. So we are not talking about browsing the web. Second, most new PCs today come with an OEM version of the Windows OS. This OEM version allows the PC manufacturer to pre-configure your factory default OS with programs and files that may or may not be malware. Even when you reset to factory settings, your OS is not necessarily clean. Yes, PCs ship from the factory with malware and a google search can confirm.

Given all of that, I would prefer not to connect to my home router or the internet in general until my firewall is configured to my preferences.

To the other poster, I am not running a trial version of Norton Security. The moment I finish installing the download of my paid version, it tells me that I am running an expired trial version, which I am not. The product tells me that I am not protected and that I need to connect to the internet to purchase the product or validate an existing key. During this time, I can not configure any firewall settings because the product is disabled.

I specifically buy Norton for the firewall as they haven't detected any viruses or malware in the last five years. I recently ran a scan with a free version of AVG and it found some WoW  type keylogger on my computer and flash drives dating back to 2008 when I was using computers on my college campus. Norton never found it in the five years since I had their product installed. Norton also never detected or alerted me that there was some malware on my factory default OS that was using raw sockets.

I am not sure how other people use their Norton product, maybe for disk optimization or some cloud backup for their family photos, but I don't particularly find any value in those features. I want to know my PC is not being accessed or communicating data without my knowledge. It's very simple.
