New issues immediately after installing 11/17 4.1 Updaters

1- After installing 11/17 NAV Update, all the locks in Norton AntiVirus application are no longer locking, they simply opens up immediately after locking them. This did not occur prior to installing this update.

2- After installing 11/17 NF Update, ALL the locks in Norton Firewall are no longer locking, they simply opens up immediately after locking them. Prior to installing this update, ONLY the lock in the NF Firewall Settings was not locking.

3- This issue remain after after installing 11/17 NF Update. Norton Firewall Application Blocking is still doing the same error by asking whether to Block an application which already have been added to Application Blocking and was set to Block. When I reply Yes, thereby the identical application end up appearing twice in the Application path settings list, and so on.

Amendment to 3- it should read as follows:

3- This issue remain after after installing 11/17 NF Update. Norton Firewall Application Blocking is still doing the same error by asking whether to Block or Allow an application which already have been added to Application Blocking and was set to Block or Allow. When I reply Yes, thereby the identical application end up appearing twice in the Application path settings list, and so on.

jonitango-

I have not been able to reproduce this error, but am interested in how you are getting this to happen.  I assume that it is not something obvious like the same Application at two different paths?

I will ask for your exported firewall settings ( Norton Firewall: File->Export...) by private message.

I am having the same issue.  I just updated my NAV 11.1 (102).  The lock clicks, then opens when I move the cursor away from it.

I am having the same problem too, I just updated to NAV 11.1 (102).  The lock immediately clicks back open whenever I try to lock it.  I am running OSX 10.5.8.

Hi,

I am also experiencing issue no. 1 in your list. None of the locks work in NAV 11.1 no matter how many times you lock the app, it immediately unlocks as soon as you move your cursor away from the lock area. Even if you lock via the preferences menu option, the app unlocks within a few seconds. This didn't occur with the previous version of the app.

I am on running under Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a Mac Pro (Early 2008).

Stuart

Hi,

With regard to issue #1 and #2.  This is by design.  If you are an admin user the locks just re-open.  We thought the ease of use this created for the admin user made more sense. Try logging in as a non-admin user.   The locks operate as usual and only open after authentication.

yeah so far for me the lock is the only the issue.

also,  Norton Confidential doesn't open in the center of screen like Norton Firewall and Norton Antivirus. It opens sort of to left and up a bit from the center of the screen. Not an "URGENT YOU MUST FIX RIGHT NOW" but it is something I noticed. And I was opening them up through the Norton Menu.

John, thanks for responding so quickly.  I would like to be able to run with the panel locked as an admin user, since that is where I need to do so much of my work.  Can this be changed?

Hi John,

Thanks for the explanation.  I would actually describe it as by "redesign", as it never worked that way before this update.  Absolutely nothing else works that way on my mac, so it is actually not a convenience.  I would request that it be returned to the way it worked before.

Thanks.

Re: New issues immediately after installing 11/17 4.1 Updaters

hi everyone--

thanks for the feedback. We got a lot more feedback about the locks being frustrating because they were not consistent, and decided to make the change.  Basically, most people are not spending a whole lot of time in the application--they set things up and then get on with their lives--and this change was implemented to make changing those settings more convenient.

Your feedback is appreciated and will be considered as we move forward.

thanks!

mike

Of course, Apple recommends that users do not log in as admin users in the first place, that they make two accounts and use the non admin account as their primary account...

Yeah but it's too late now. :)

(I actually like the change to the locks btw. )

Re: New issues immediately after installing 11/17 4.1 Updaters

Admin user is supposed to be the most secure user, now with 11/17 Update NIS admin user is the least secure user !!!
In fact, my major complaint about NIS from the start along with other NIS users was the inability to lock Norton Firewall Settings causing the Firewall not to function properly. Symantec techs said earlier they are working on a fix for this problem. In fact, few days prior to the 11/17 Update, your reply to my email about this specific problem to you Mike,  assured me that the upcoming 11/17 Update will address this issue.
It appears that symantec techs were unable to fix the problem of inability of the locks to lock in the Norton Firewall after almost 1 year from its release in such a problematic and major security issue, as such, they decided to unlock now the  NAV AntiVirus locks too !!! and refer to the unresolved problem as if they done it as in Firewall from the start for the benefit of the admin user !!!
As with so many much frustrated mac users from Symantec not coming up with prompt and proper updates and/or fixes to their products for mac (except NAV) since the release of OS X 10.4, I have given up on NIS, it lost my trust in it to secure and guard my Mac. As such, I switched to Intego Internet Security bundle which include VirusBarrier, NetBarrier, and PersonalBackup with Intego issuing compatibility updates immediately along with Apple updates, and the cost is the same as NIS.
