The "New" Norton 360 and Beta Testing

I'm thoroughly confused about how Norton is conducting their beta testing these days and hope someone from Norton can provide insight.

Norton employee Gayathri_R's posted on 19-Dec-2018 post in Is this a new product? Norton 360 about a beta test for a "new" Norton 360.

https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/have-...

A small group of users in the U.S. are being directed to test comprehensive plans on Norton.com. We’re looking forward to learning from them. Not everyone will have this opportunity since it’s a beta test. I have posted this information in the thread linked above. Thank you.

I assume this is the free upgrade that some Norton 360 users were recently offered via e-mail. There are currently multiple threads in this forum about Secure VPN  failures bundled with this "new" Norton 360 and lack of support from Norton Customer Support and Norton employees - see Mr Y's 02-Feb-2019 comment in Norton 360 Premium II Upgrade Email for one example.  No one from Norton has replied yet in beta tester JJGolf5343's Secure VPN - Inconsistent Does Not Turn On and other threads I've been monitoring on this same topic.

First question.  How does this "new" Norton 360 being beta tested by select users differ from the "new" Norton 360  (i.e., N360 Standard / Deluxe / Select / Advantage / Ultimate Plus with Secure VPN, SafeCam, LifeLock, etc.) product that is already available for purchase at https://us.norton.com/norton-360-standard?

Secondly, I assumed the Norton EAP (Early Adopter Program) in the Norton Public Beta forum had been shut down, but when I checked today participants were discussing EAP Build 22.17.0.97 (released 09-Jan-2019) for Norton Security.  Why isn't the "new" Norton 360 also being offered in the Norton EAP beta testing board where feedback can be closely monitored by Norton employees in a structured test environment?

Re: The "New" Norton 360 and Beta Testing

Good questions lmarci

Your first question...The beta from Gayathri's announcement is the same product being offered at the link you give for the new 360 products. It is just that you cannot find that link or product on the Norton web site unless you were given the link by an email invite from Norton, or from seeing it here in the forums. And not having seen one of those emails, I'm not even sure that the recipients are told it is a beta test.

As for EAP, I can only guess that that is not an actual beta forum. Just, as the name states, it is an Early Adopter Program for those that wish to get the next update to the current products. As the new 360 products integrate the VPN, it is not the same product we are using now. So Norton has decided to get unwitting users to pay for the privilege of beta testing this new product line. And as you have commented, some are seeing issues with the integrated VPN feature. And as we have not seen the product ourselves yet, we can only guess at suggestions of how to get to some feature settings. And as you noted, we have asked for Norton to get someone to post into those threads, but so far, only crickets.

Re: The "New" Norton 360 and Beta Testing

peterweb. lmacri. Does Norton Core ring a bell or two? Myself and others were rejected from the BETA on that product late last year as well. The explanation I received was is was cancelled. Here we are now, with Core discontinued. Norton didn't listen to their customers with Core in any fashion. Eventually they saw through the smoke, and sales went south. There was also another issue I posted about as well but won't repost it here for the sake of professionalism.

So Norton has decided to get unwitting users to pay for the privilege of beta testing this new product line.

The statement above seems to have serious credence in that I know there were those who offered to BETA test yet were rejected, whatever the reason. I was one of those people. For the new products and no hands on personally I cannot assist customers in a professional manner. Thus, I have to personally pass the info on as you both have been doing. Its aggravation 101 which we Guru's are not accustomed to when it comes to not being able to assist. Lets all hope someone listens for a change. Sorry for the rant. READY AND WILLING TO TEST!!!

Cheers

Re: The "New" Norton 360 and Beta Testing

Looks like a new version of the Norton VPN included in the new 360 products has just been released. Please run LiveUpdate from your 360.

See the product announcement here.    https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/norto...

Hi peterweb:

Was your comment addressed to users who are beta testing the "new" Norton 360 product line?  I live in Canada and don't use N360 so I'm not eligible to participate.

My original question was addressed to the Norton employees about why this product wasn't tested first in the Norton Public Beta forum before they began sending out e-mails offering it to N360 users in the U.S. as a free "upgrade". This "new" N360 might not be an EAP release of the Norton Security product line (i.e., a preview of the upcoming Norton v22.17.x) but that shouldn't have prevented Norton from conducting a few months of formal testing in that Norton Public Beta forum before they began offering it as an "upgrade" to a select group of "old" N360 users.

I hope this isn't the way Norton is planning to conduct beta testing of product lines they've bundled with LifeLock, Secure VPN, etc. in the future, because the lack of transparency (not to mention customer support) has been dreadful.  I just hope all these beta testers have turned off automatic renewals in their Norton Account so they aren't charged an arm and a leg when their annual subscription expires.

Re: The "New" Norton 360 and Beta Testing

Hi lmacri

All new 360 products are part of the beta test. The older 360 product we used to use have nothing to do with this new product line. Just an unfortunate recycling of the name. Even though the product says nothing about being a beta. Also being from Canada, I do not have access to the product to be able to usefully help users.

I agree with all your comments on how Norton presented/introduced this new product. There have been some other 'beta blunders' lately that really concerned me.

Will the final release key work in the Norton EAP "program"?
