New to Norton: Identity Safe, Safe surfing, Safe web, Safe search - what's the difference?

Hi, I have just purchased and installed on my computer Norton 360 (the latest version version that covers windows 7 and 8). I am a bit confused as to what the difference between the following terms is:

-Identity Safe

- Safe Surfing

-Safe Web

- Safe search

Are they different things or just different words used to mean the same thing? Any clarification greatly appreciated!

Re: New to Norton: Identity Safe, Safe surfing, Safe web, Safe search - what's the difference?

Hi a_tad_confused,

Identity Safe is a password management tool.  You can store log-ins, identity cards and notes in an encrypted vault and use the feature to automatically log into your saved websites.

Safe Surfing is the settings page containing the settings for Antiphishing and Norton Safe Web.  Safe Web is a site rating service.  A Norton Toolbar button lets you check the reputation of a site that you are visiting, and you can also have rating icons appear next to links that are returned in search results in Google, Bing and Yahoo, so you will know which sites to avoid.

Norton Safe Search is an optional Norton-enhanced search engine provided by Ask.  It would allow you to customize your searches, such as by  preventing dangerous sites from even showing in the search results.  You can disable Norton Safe Search if you prefer to use a different search engine.

You're welcome.  You can get more detailed information by clicking the small "?" next to each feature's setting in the Norton Settings panels.
