New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

Apparently there is a new release implemented, namely 22.16.3.21.

Is there any announcement?

Received MUI files only this afternoon UK - nothing in product update blogs.

All: Just ran live update manually, got the new version here in the US. I'm sure an announcement will be forthcoming as this appears to be a phased release.

Perhaps this will resolve the longstanding problem of slow re-generation of history  and the recent having to sign into account before signing into vault, both of which were not responded to by Norton in the forums or mentioned in their late announcements of updates (then only when prompted).Likewise no response to private messages.

SoulAsylum,

I made the thread becuase normally the announcement is made, before the phased release.

I have it installed on two systems already and would like to know what the changes are!

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

Understood, and I agree that the announcement / release notes should be posted prior to an update release. I had issues with this update where I restarted my laptop and got a total black screen. Hard powered down twice and got it still. Third cold boot things returned to normal. So yes I indeed do understand the need for knowing what has been improved or changed.

Also as mgirons post I have validated this update DOES NOT alleviate the need to log into your Norton account to log into your vault issue as well. The dev team knows of the issue and have it for action per my contact with admins.

Cheers

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

SoulAsylum,

Is this ANOTHER untested release that has bugs in it as we have had major bugs in it past 18 months?. I don't now install until I know it is a good release, I used to install straight away without issues, now that trust has been lost. They definitely know of they Vault issue, if they were working on it why not issue an update so all us PAYING customers know what is happening to resolve the issue.? Worrying about the Black screen issue, that means, in my mind, something is wrong in the upgrade. Just wondering with a complete black screen how do you re-boot - doing bit of a search it suggests on the third bad boot, Windows should boot in troubleshoot mode.

No problem here choosing to restart my machine instead of applying now, but I did receive another patch requiring yet another restart soon after.

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

mgirons. I powered the laptop down holding the power button since there wasn't a Windows UI visible. I had no other means to power it off at that point. The laptop SHOULD have indeed gone into startup repair, if it did so it wasn't visible before the login screen finally appeared after 2-3 minutes. As did Krusty I also got a small update just a bit ago. The laptop now works as it should. I'm on Windows 10 Pro version 1809, it wouldn't surprise me at all if something within the OS caused the black screen. 1809 has had its moments.

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

SoulAsylum. Thanks for confirmation, that would have been my way but may have given up after 2nd failure. I'm still on 8.1, reading an online review a few weeks ago which reckoned 8.1 is the more reliable and stable of the 2. Did upgrade laptop to version 10 but had troubles with slow loading of applications, constant loss of wi-fi connections to both router & printer. On one occasion had 1 hr & 40 mins when it was not usable. Went back to 8.1 with problems but since being sorted no problems. Always appears to be Windows 10 issues, apparently have decided on more testing before issuing updates !, believe there was issue in December which was caught just before release. Seems all developers work this way, Norton included, even my online banking which has two acknowledged  'Known Issues' but they don't get resolved.

No problem on three Win10 x64 1809 machines, but all three needed a second restart.

Hello

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit here. I had about a 101 MB download. At the end of that, it said a restart was needed and there was a patch. I chose to restart later like I do every time. I restarted later and then, ran Live Update like I always do after restarting. Again another patch to apply chose again to Apply Later. Restarted again and Live Update, ran Live Update, got a small update with 2 files. Ran Live Update again and no more. So I had 2 chosen Apply Later which required the 2 restarts. and another small update. No issues here. Procedure was the same as with recent previous major updates.

Hello

After you receive the update, please go over the Settings. I noticed that the Firewall was a fresh one. The Background Tasks also start fresh.which means nothing was done until after the update. That means the Full Virus Scan will have to be done first before your scheduled scans will start to run as scheduled. Just some basic things you should do after any Norton update or any fresh reinstall of the program.

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

6:00 am UK time - still no mention in Product Update Announcements for what we are getting in this upgrade - these have been getting more lax over the last few months and on one or two occasions, being issued to an update to a previous version update which means users are not receiving the email notifications. Norton, please inform your paying customers what is happening out of common respect to them.

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am wrong, but in the past, the admins (those who write the update info) have no idea exactly when the phased updates will be released, thus they have to wait until they are released to gather the info of what was included in the update and then generate the blog announcement.  It's like the left hand don't know what the right hand is doing, nor when the right hand is doing it.

There are many teams at Norton, as proven by info admins post- such as thanks for the information on your problem, it'll be passed on to the appropriate team for perusal. Once the team figures out what is causing it and a fix for it is developed and it must go out as an update (rather than a simple fix on the backend), it may sit idle for a few days or a week or two weeks, awaiting to be included in a future Update.  There may be (as an example) 4 or 5 updates waiting to be released, but there are other more important updates to also be released.  Now the admins might know which fixes are ready to be released in a update, but they do not know which fixes are included in that update until such time as it is released.

The above is a very short explanation of a reason the "blog for an update" is not released prior to an update being released.

I will ask @Sunil_GA

if it is possible to provide more in-depth info of how the update prep and release works.

Belated announcement received from Sunil GA - https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/announcing-norton-2216321-update-windows - appears only minor changes.

I just ran LiveUpdate and it tried to install 22.16.3.21. After restart, now stuck in a reboot cycle and BSOD saying "Inaccessible Boot Device."

I've initiated Startup Repair, should be done in a few HOURS

Update: Startup Repair found no problems. Safe Mode booted up fine, so uninstalled Norton Security with NRnR and reinstalled. Norton installed and updated to 22.16.3.21 just fine.

Re: New release 22.16.3.21 ?? No announcement.

Is Live Update now supposed to delete all browsing history when it runs?  I ran Live Update earlier this afternoon, and I just found that my whole browser history has been deleted. This background task was not enabled in either Norton or IE 11.0.47 browser.  I am running Norton Security 22.16.2.22. Any idea why this would happen?  I know this is off-topic, but I haven't been able to find any info on Norton site - anywhere.  Could you direct me to a forum or reference that may address this issue?

Thanks, Chris

Chris, running IE 11 on Windows 8.1, December Windows updates took IE to 11.0.100 which would be latest version, you mention 11.0.47, did you get December updates? Laptop taken to 22.16.3.21 yesterday and History present for standard 3 weeks.
