Ran Smart scan and then Norton tries to bill me $69?

I already have Norton Utilities Premium (had Norton Utilities 16 also), which I got for Free with Norton 360 auto-renew subscription.

So.. What does Smart Scan (already loaded itself with NO charge, though extra utils were being Marketed for cash) do that Premium Utilities does NOT?

Got Green checks (quickly) on first two parts, but Advanced Issues was STILL running, with NO RESULTS, after Over an HOUR. Doesn't give a CLUE how far into its "job" it is, and when it might be finished. NO Clue as to exactly what it had checked Already, and What it seemed to get "stuck" in. NO CANCEL button. I clicked on HOME Icon, on top, and was asked if I Really wanted to quit, since it was still checking.

I KEEP GETTING ASKED about Norton Utilities Premium, even though I HAVE IT, And Have Been Using it, with Auto settings, for Over a Year.

FAQ: Smart Scan

Why should I run Smart Scan to resolve issues? Will not the existing Norton scans resolve this?
Unlike the existing Norton scans that scan for threats and performance issues, Smart Scan performs a comprehensive scan for viruses and malware, network vulnerabilities, performance issues, and privacy issues.

Why do I see different issues at different times?
Each time you run Smart Scan, it assesses the current security, network, and system performance status and notifies you with the necessary actions best suited to resolve the issues found.

Why does the main window display 'At Risk' even after Smart Scan completes and detects no issues?
This can happen when you do not have the latest virus definitions but run Smart Scan. For example, you may have not used your computer for long time and ran Smart Scan as soon as you launched Norton. In this case, Smart Scan runs with the existing virus definitions and completes the scan while newer virus definitions may be available in the Norton server. To resolve this, you must run LiveUpdate so that the latest definitions get downloaded.

Can I turn off promotional offers when running a Smart Scan?
No, you cannot turn off the promotional offers that appear when you run Smart Scan.

Can I fix some of the issues reported by Smart Scan at a later time?
You cannot fix issues at a later time. If you choose to ignore the issues reported in the current scan, you must run Smart Scan again and act on the issues identified.

NortonLifeLock recommends that you resolve the issues detected in the each category of the scan before you proceed to the next category.

Is it possible to run the individual sections of Smart Scan separately?
No, you cannot run the different categories of Smart Scan individually.

Why is it recommended not to run any other scan when Smart Scan is in progress?
Running another scan such as Quick Scan or Full System Scan can interrupt with the functionality of Smart Scan. Ensure that you do not run any other Norton scan when Smart Scan is in progress.

Not all issues can be addressed by Smart Scan. Some of the fixes may involve getting additional entitlements that are not part of your current subscription plan.

If Smart Scan recommends you to get an entitlement that is not part of your current subscription plan, you can purchase the required entitlement from the Smart Scan wizard. Entitlement such as Norton Utilities Premium that you purchase gets installed and activated automatically. For other entitlements, Norton presents you with instructions on how to use them.

Ensure your device remains connected to the Internet when you run the Smart Scan. If your device is not connected to the Internet, Smart Scan is limited to virus and malware scan. In addition, ensure that you do not run any other Norton scan.

The Smart Scan feature is currently available only in the U.S.

Run a Smart Scan

1. Start Norton.

   If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

2. In the Norton main window, click Run Smart Scan.

   Wait for the virus and malware scan to complete.

3. If there are items that require attention, review the risks and take appropriate action, and then click Fix Now.

4. In the Smart Scan wizard, click Next and wait for the network scan to complete.

5. If there are items that require attention, review the risks and take appropriate action.

   Your options are:

   • Trust This Network

   • Disconnect

   • Enable Secure VPN

   • Open Secure VPN

   The options may vary depending on the entitlements of your subscription plan.

6. Click Next and wait for the advanced issues scan to complete.

7. If there are items that require attention, click Resolve.

   You may be directed to purchase the required entitlements to resolve the identified issues.

8. If there are no issues with any of these scans, Smart Scan displays No issues found.

9. After the Smart Scan is complete, click Complete.

I'm curious what "promo ads" you're seeing?  I'm seeing the same "Additional Apps and Services" that, as I recall, were with My Norton view from before Smart Scan feature.

On my machines Smart Scan run from My Norton view displays the same My Norton view before and after Smart Scan run.

The image you show is what I see. I did not used to see it. It appears to be an overlay that sits on the prior image of a hiker. I don't care about any of that.

What I care about is that when I run the smart scan it tells me what has been found and displays a RESOLVE button. When I click on resolve it automatically tries to bill me using the credit card I have on file.  That sneaky attempt is bad enough but I bought an antivirus program that is supposed to resolve issues already. Why should we have to pay more fore something the program should already be doing?

Isn't Norton Utilities Premium supposed to be a Computer "Tune Up"?? Why would I need to Buy Another one, from the Same Company. What does it do Differently, from Utilities Premium?

Ultimate Help Desk? Isn't Utilities Premium Also supposed to help Fix problems?

If someone wants to see programs available from a Utility provider, Why not just have a "Do you want to see what Other utilities you might like to have?" Instead of Offering them, INSIDE the running utility??

AND Shouldn't the Symantec/Norton system SEE that you Already have Purchased AND are Using Symantec/Norton programs, that do the SAME things as the programs that are being PUSHED in the Already Installed and Running program?

I KEEP being asked to purchase Norton Utilities Premium, even though I Downloaded it and Installed it AND AM USING IT (for Over a Year).

I was NOT ASKED whether I wanted to ADD Smart Scan to My Norton.... But, it GOT THERE. When I went to run it... Hmmmm.. Should I have been MALWARE SUSPICIOUS?? "Something has Hacked my Norton Program, and ADDED a program!!!!"

I DID Run It.. First two parts took Less than 5mins. Network part was less than 20secs... WOW!!! Quick Network check!! Didn't Show what it Had Checked. Advanced Issues Didn't show Anything about what it was checking... NO Progress Bar. I left it running... Had something to eat.. Read a book. Came back... STILL RUNNING!! Still NO Idea of What Had Been Checked.. What was LEFT. I Know it was AT LEAST ONE HOUR RUNNING. NO Cancel or Pause buttons. No Show Details button. No Resolve button either. I clicked on HOME Icon, on Top of window. Got window, asking whether I really wanted to Quit the Still Running program. YES, I wanted to Quit. NOTHING SHOWN about What or Whether it had Completed anything.

AGAIN... Showing "Buy Now" inside a utility that is supposed to be watching for JUNK/MALWARE being SENT to your computer is NOT RIGHT. Image coming to mind, of a picture showing an airport runway thru the cock-pit windows, with a screen on the control dashboard saying "To continue using this App, please Purchase Windows Now!".
