New thread not working ...So I am posting a new thread to ask about it(call the phone company if your phone is out)

I posted a new thread, and I can find it in a search, but it does not appear in the forum where I posted it.

I replied to a thread and that worked fine, so I'm not sure what is going on.

Ok, nevermind now it isn't working again. Of course you won't see either of my replies because it isn't working...

Nevermind now it is working. I feel like someone is at the light switch and as soon as I say "ah, the lights came back on", they turn the lights off, then I say "arg, the lights are out" they turn them back on.

Re: New thread not working ...So I am posting a new thread to ask about it(call the phone company if your phone is out)

What?? Now all my posts disappeared. Is someone messing with me?

Edit:
My total posts/threads including this thread I created and replied to: 0

Edit2:
My total posts/threads including this thread I created and replied to: 9 or 4 depending on how you count.

Edit3:
Now I have one window open where 2 posts are missing, and another (same thread) where none are missing. Did a cacheless refresh, no change in either window. This is the wrong time of year for the forum to be haunted.

Edit4:
Now all my replies in this thread have disappeared.

Edit5:
Now my edits have stopped working.

Edit6:
"You cannot remove this flag." -- What's that supposed to mean? I don't even see a flag.

Ok, now I am back down to zero replies to this thread and 5 total posts. Is this forum just broken or something?

I wasn't having trouble doing the edit (and I was within the hour), but when I was done the edits or replies (or some of the edits and replies) were not there.

Still happening my last post (which hasn't vanished), is the one with 6 edits. I made 2 posts since then one several hours ago and one a minute ago, they don't seem to be there anymore. Although many of them do show up now. Your reply was visible right away it seems.

@password_password

As a new user to the forum, your first few posts can be delayed if you have images or links in them, until a moderator can verify that the contents meet forum rules and are not spam.

These delays will stop as your forum reputation increases.

Sorry thought no-one would see anything since posting threads (then after that even posts) wasn't working, so I posted again.

Re: New thread not working ...So I am posting a new thread to ask about it(call the phone company if your phone is out)

peterweb, strangely now your (last) post is showing up intermittently (you seem to have plenty of posts).

I loaded https://community.norton.com/en/forums/new-thread-not-working-so-i-am-posting-new-thread-ask-about-itcall-phone-company-if-your in another browser and your post (the one I am replying to) is missing from this thread. But it is visible from this browser while logged in. It doesn't quite make sense.

Another oddity from the last minutes is a js file for the forum:
https://community.norton.com/sites/default/files/js/js_J8g9CYxbqA01kH6y5TY-u78CcQ0HRP7n6EM1al8Q1p8.js
failed to download for me for about 30 minutes.

Symptoms: page doesn't finish loading (spinning), browser says it was waiting for that file to download, multiple retries (in other browsers) and I was unable to load the file, after 30 minutes the file now loads in less than a second (the fancy reply text editor did not work while this was going on).

(you seem to have plenty of posts).

The "guru" after a name here means a user who has been selected by Norton to help answer questions since this is a set of Forums where users help other users.

But we do have access to Norton Staff when additional help is needed (when they post here their names appear in red) so it's much more than just users helping users and adds to the "been there done that" that our own experience provides.

Yea, I got that much, what I mean (about post count) is if more posts make you have no delays why am I seeing the same problem (delays / not visible posts) with users who have many-multiple posts?

Last consistently visible post in this thread was my last post, your post is missing if I load this thread in another browser while not logged in.

Also randomly off topic I see people who need to post screenshots (annoyingly) posting pdfs instead of normal images and I often wondered who would post a picture encapsulated in a pdf (especially a screenshot) when they can just post a picture. Then I notice acceptable attachments are "txt pdf zip". This makes little sense, can you explain that too while you are at it?

Re: New thread not working ...So I am posting a new thread to ask about it(call the phone company if your phone is out)

It is the number of posts 'YOU' have made that determines the delay in YOUR posts. Not the posts of other users here.

If you are seeing different results for the same link from different browsers, it sounds more like some issue with your system, or browser settings..

Instructions to post screenshots can be found here
https://community.norton.com/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

The file attachments are really more suited to a log file or some documentation.

Many users have not seen the instructions for posting images, so they make it work by posting the pdfs.

"It is the number of posts 'YOU' have made that determines the delay in YOUR posts. Not the posts of other users here." -- that's what I understood, but it wasn't what I saw. (well I did see that, but I saw something else too)

Saw your (or someone's, not my) post while logged in. Looked at the same thread in another browser, then in a portable browser (freshly downloaded) then the same thing on another computer, didn't see your post. It was like you never posted, then later (maybe 2 hours) your post was visible (from all views). It's not something on this end, the outbound page request was the same, the inbound content was different (post or posts temporarily missing).

I'm guessing it's intentional and there is a reason the forum/server is doing this, but I don't know what that reason is.

The reason I was initially confused is some of my posts were delayed more than others (some not at all), on review it seems like the ones with links were delayed more (which makes sense). Now I am puzzled why old/all members posts are delayed to show up to those not logged in / first time visitors...

So images are uploaded as special way so they can be displayed(inline), not just attached. But why is it required to upload them for inline display rather than attaching them? Just seems odd to me.

Based on experience here and elsewhere most Forums like these are hosted on a framework built by third party and not specifically for the organizations like Norton itself. Certainly that limitation on attached files is something I've seen elsewhere and similar methods of inserting images in a message.

I know this is true for say CompuServe so that they way things actually are set up comes preset ... and then presumably at a cost can be tailored to a degree.

Well this is odd:

That user just attached a PNG image as a regular attachment... How is that possible?

Not sure what you are getting at? I see a post where someone posted an image the way it seems possible to do.

I've seen a few posts now where they have attached a png that is not inline. I don't see how that's possible.

Here's one, attached two PNGs. Files that you can only include inline.

Ok, so it seems you CAN attach PNGs, but only to a new thread.

New thread: txt pdf png
New post in an existing thread: txt pdf zip

What..? Why?
