News Website Advert/popups

Hi,

Anyone know how I can get rid of advert / popups which I started receiving after answering a survey (D'oh) on BBC News website.

I thought it was only this website being affected but seems to be all 'news' websites (Sky CNN etc).

A full system scan hasn't assisted, neither did Power Eraser.

Have seen the words 'pixel uprise' when getting ads.

Thanks

That is the job of your browser. Use Firefox or Chrome with the uBlock Origin extension. is it an ad or a popup? Where are you seeing these? Can you post a screenshot. Thanks.

Re: News Website Advert/popups

They are small pop up ads (like you see on a youtube video) and smal video ads. Now started opening up new tabs each time I click on a news article.

The new tab gives the 'Leave this Page' or 'No thanks' option when I try to close.

Cheers

All I see is normal advertisement. As previously suggested by me you can use Firefox or Chrome with uBlock Origin adblocker extension. There is also uBlock Origin for Edge but it is beta now. To be safe you can download and run a scan with MalwareBytes AdwCleaner.Microsoft Edge browswer is stil new and there is not many extensions out for it.

Thanks for advice.

I downloaded adwcleaner and although it found and cleaned 148 other threats, it has not solved this problem.

I have just tried Int Explorer rather than Edge and the problem does not exist there on the same sites suggesting it must be within Edge. Any other ideas gratefully received.....

Re: News Website Advert/popups

I gave you ideas. Please follow them. There is no problem with Edge. It's normal advertising. Install another browser such as Firefox or Chrome.Thanks.

You can also download Zemana Antimalware Portable. But you are not infected or anything. Try emptying your cookies and chache from Edge. You can use CCleaner.

Last but not least you can reset Edge.

@steve miller 999:

1. Any site owner like said BBC.co.uk does have the right to earn some/extra money to support his/her online content. That's why you saw those ad windows (Google AdSense, I think, personally).

For more info, you may reivew its tos & Privacy page here.

And, it's quite common that you can bypass those sponsors:

The new tab gives the 'Leave this Page' or 'No thanks' option when I try to close.

Neither a Norton nor Norton Power Eraser (NPE) will work in such a case.

A full system scan hasn't assisted, neither did Power Eraser.

And, use NPE w/ caution, always.

Further, you may disable Special Offer Notification if you too don't want to receive those useful info from Norton/Symantec.

All in all, the adware removal you performed has nothing to with those legit ads/sponsors.

I downloaded adwcleaner and although it found and cleaned 148 other threats, it has not solved this problem.

2. Adwcleaner & removed "148 threats"

You had better learn how to keep those greyware at bay: keep an eye on yr left mouse button when downloading/installing 3rd-party programs.

Thx and luck~ :)
