NIS 2009 break NSW 2008

I upgraded from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 which seemed to work, but now NSW 2008 doesn't work.

When I first ran it, it tried to reconfigure itself (an install window appeared) and finally a blank Norton System works window appeared which then stopped responding to windows XP.

The only thing I really use from NSW 2008 is Norton Recycle bin.

Is there a plan to offer a NSW 2009 that is compatible with NIS 2009?

NIS 2009 should be compatible with any NSW versions. I suggest you run Norton Removal Tool, then install NSW first, and after that - NIS.

Re: NIS 2009 break NSW 2008

I ended up running NRT as you suggested, but installed NIS 2009 first to see what it actually installed.  I noticed that it no longer installs into the \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder nor any of the other existing folders that were used in NIS 2008 and NSW 2008.  On a whim I decided to install NSW 2008 after installing NIS 2009 just to see what would happen and everything seems okay.

I still don't like having the NSW 2008 processes running in the background in addition to the NIS 2009, but short of disabling the NSW services, there doesn't seem to be any way around that.  Like I mentioned I only use NSW 2008 for the Norton Protected Recycle Bin so the only process I really need running is NPROTECT.EXE.  All the other stuff (ccapp.exe, ccevtmgr.exe [in shared folder] and AluSchedulerSvc.exe) are just useless processes for me.

I really hope you come out with a 2009 version of NSW that just runs processes that are needed.
