NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Hi there:

How often does Vulnerability Protection "definitions" get updated?

One other thing - is there a history of Vulnerabilities, as in a Log?

I don't see an entry under "Security History" for this.

TIA :0)

Can you give a screen shot of the item you are talking about?

Re: NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Hi dbrisendine:

Actually, it is very easy.

Just open the UI and look under Network -> Vulnerability Protection.

Re: NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Hi Plankton,

Vulnerability Protection, being a part of the Intrusion Prevention System, uses the IPS definitions set.  Program vulnerabilities are discovered and announced with far less frequency than are the discoveries of new malware, so these definitions are updated only periodically.

Re: NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Well since I'm BETAing N360 at the moment, I can't do that.

However I found what you are talking about in the BETA and there are some updates for this but it may have been when NIS2010 / N360 v4 were first installed.

Good question.

Re: NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Hi dbrisendine and SOJ:

I was just curious about how often this is updated, should a "vulnerability" be announced by Adobe, etc.

Perhaps NIS and NAV 2010 just block the exploit, but not patch it - that would be up to the user.

Still curious as to the exact frequency compared to the IPS definitions.

Thanks for the replies.

Re: NIS 2010 - Vulnerability Protection

Hi SOJ:

Nice to see that Symantec is on their toes!

Do you see it in the NAV/NIS Vulnerability List, just yet?
