NIS for Mac 4/5 activation issues

I am really frustrated. I have a G5 and a MacBook. About 2 weeks ago, I renewed my NIS and, since I have an older machine, bought NIS 5 but I installed the NIS 4 located within 5. I had some problems with install, so talked to a guy on chat who gave me an activation key. My product update says it is still not activated. I reinstalled, same problem. Then I read on the forum that activation codes for 4 are 12 digits, 25 digits for 5. The code he gave me has 25 digits. The annoying daily "Your subscription has expired" message has gone away, but it if it is not activated, am I really protected? I hate those red letters staring at me on my product page.

Now, I need to upgrade the MacBook to NIS 5 (Last Minute Lulu - my subscription on that machine expires tomorrow).

My question is this: can I download the NIS 5 that I already bought onto the MacBook and use the 25 digit code I already have, and just renew the NIS 4 for the G5? If I need to talk to customer support, can  someone tell me where to find them? I have wasted hours on this, and can't get anywhere.

Thanks for any help.

Re: NIS for Mac 4/5 activation issues

Each copy of NIS 5 can be installed on up to three machines.  So, yes, you can use your existing NIS 5 license and activation code on your MacBook.

I'm not sure if the NIS 4 license terms are similar, or if the NIS 5 license also applies to the bundled NIS 4 software.

If you want to know if your NIS 4 product is actually activated, you can open Norton AntiVirus or Norton Firewall and check there.

Re: NIS for Mac 4/5 activation issues

The licensing is different for NIS 4 vs. NIS 5, so what you suggested is correct, use the activation code for NIS 5, and just renew your subscription for NIS 4 (not renewing means you won't get new signatures for AV, anti-phishing or vulnerability protection).  Reinstall of NIS 4 from the NIS 5 disk does not replace your original license.

Re: NIS for Mac 4/5 activation issues

Thanks for your help - just want to make sure I do this right. On the NIS 4, should I uninstall and start with a new renewal? Or can I just buy a key for the NIS 4 that came with the NIS 5? Sorry for being such a dolt.

Re: NIS for Mac 4/5 activation issues

No need to apologize, it's admittedly confusing.  You shouldn't need to reinstall, the licensing info is preserved through uninstall/install (which is why you didn't automatically get a new year of subscription).  Just obtain and enter the renewal for NIS 4.
