NIS for Mac: activation problem

My NIS for Mac expires today. First I tried to renew my subscription, but had no success following the links and kept getting product not found- which was odd as I entered the correct exisiting version of NIS. I then decided to purchase NIS 5 online. Whatever I do, and please have patience as I'm not the most technically minded, I cannot get the product to activate. At no point have I been prompted for the product key. The only prompt, and it has been intermitant, has been for the subscription key- which I do not have. From my Norton account I can see the product key and serial number, but entering these in place of the subscription key does not work. My Norton account keeps prompting me to download the product again as it detects it as not being installed. My Norton account flags the product as not being activated. I've downloaded the software several times, even after uninstalling the original version of NIS. If I open the Anti-virus window, it shows the remaining time as unknown.

How do I activate the product? Where do I get a subscription key from?

I'm running a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8

Re: NIS for Mac: activation problem

It shouldn't be possible to install NIS 5, which is only meant for OS X Lion, on Snow Leopard.

NIS 4 uses a 12-character serial number.

NIS 5 uses a 25-character activation code.

Subscriptions for these products are different, and one product's subscription can't activate the other version.

If you're staying on Snow Leopard, but did purchase NIS 5, you may want to contact Customer Service for a refund.  They should also be able to help you with a renewal for NIS 4.

Hope that helps!

Re: NIS for Mac: activation problem

Thanks.

The odd thing was that when I tried to follow the links to renew my subscription for the old version of NIS for Mac, I didn't seem to get very far. Maybe I just made mistakes, but I kept getting something like 'product not found'. I then searched for other products and found NIS5. Although NIS 5 is for Lion, the information said that it includes NIS 4 for OSX 10.4.11-10.6. After download I did try installing NIS5 but it quickly pointed out that I didn't have the right operating system. However, there also appeared to be an installer for the older version of NIS which did seem to install. Maybe this was a legacy from my initial installation of NIS rather than included in the download- I'm not sure.

Anyway, I received an email from the support team and they have given me an activation code for the older version of NIS, and will provide a link, if needed, to reinstall the older version.

Many thanks for your comment, and for the prompt response of the support team. Wish me luck as I'm about to try and get this thing activated!
