NIS not finding non-deletable desktop file

There is a (xsls) file that will not respond to Get Info or deleting it.  My new MacBookPro is crawling... crawling.  I have run NIS twice and it finds nothing.  The suspect file is on the desktop to the right...D719E300.  It takes several minutes to delete any file or move a file or rename a file...  This is very weird.   Thanks, Sandy

Re: NIS not finding non-deletable desktop file

try looking into your resource meter as to what files are taking up so much processing or run task manager to do this.

Most often a background program that uses way too much computing power can slow the system down to a crawl.

Some DLL files remain after an incomplete uninstall so the best way to fix it is to reinstall programs that contain the file in qustion then do a proper uninstall of the application for a complete uninstallation.

I'm going to ask to have this thread moved to the Mac section of the forum for better exposure to those with Mac knowledge.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: NIS not finding non-deletable desktop file

Hi Sandy,

Sounds like you may have a problem with Excel or one or more of its files. I would reboot first. Some general maintenance might be in order. Run Disk Utility from your Applications/Utilities folder and Repair permissions and Verify Disk. Run Apple's Hardware Test (Press D key while booting or from Install Disk if an older model).

It might help to limit your running processes to those necessary and keep your Desktop as uncluttered as possible.

I find the best way to deal with files that won't delete from Trash is to use Finder->Secure Empty Trash.
