NIS Win 8.1. Quick Scan, Full Scan etc just stop working

Hi, and Merry Christmas,

Got a problem where from time to time some of the NIS functionality on Win 8.1. just drops out and stops working e.g. Quick Scan, Full Scan etc tabs just won't click and open and run.

Only solution seems to be an uninstall and reinstall etc but as this has happened several times now on two different Win 8.1 laptops this is now getting tedious.

Anyone any suggestions on the cause and is there a quicker way to rectify than uninstalling and reinstalling?

I should add it's occurrence appears completely random and nothing else is being installed/uninstalled just before NIS takes the huff etc and no there's no other AV software on them. Acer laptops, 64 bit, brand new, tons of everything on them (RAM etc).

It's happened twice on my mum's in as many months and, just when I thought it was something she was doing (sorry, mum!), it's now happened to me.

Many thanks,

Rowantree.

Re: NIS Win 8.1. Quick Scan, Full Scan etc just stop working

An issue with Windows 8/8.1 is the Fast Startup feature.
With this enabled, you never get a full shutdown.
Which is needed by Norton, and other programs to fully update itself.

EightForums warns that Fast Startup can cause a variety of restart and shutdown issues. If you experience any such issues, try to turn Fast Startup off.

A recent observation by some users of Win 8/8.1, is the setting for Boot Time Protection should be set to Aggressive. This has recently been shown to fix some problems with scans etc.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

rowantree's op must be the one they mentioned here, where they started a new thread as, quoting: "Tried posting this earlier but don't see it so trying again".
