No option to restore file from quarantine.

Hey ,

I am having trouble restoring a file from quarantine maybe you guys can help me out with this issue, I tried going to Quarantine but for the file i need to restore there is NO restore option (See the screenshot), what can i do to restore that file ?

Yes I am aware that the file in case is malicious but i need to do some research on it (all in a virtual environment ofc).

There is no other source from where i can get that file so the only option will be to somehow restore it from the quarantine , hope you can help me out , Thank you.

*** I am not able to attach the screenshot directly to this post, i have uploaded it here:  http://i54.tinypic.com/mh4kfo.jpg

Re: No option to restore file from quarantine.

Since Auto Protect Blocked ~ exe is Blocked.   Since SONAR Removed ~ exe is RemovedHigh Certainty Threats are controlled by Norton.  Unless threat is Quarantined.   Threat was blocked or removed. If you create a (desktop) folder then exclude that folder. You should be able to dl into that folder sans Norton protection.   see Computer Settings > AntiVirus and SONAR ExclusionsIf you are not 100% sure.  Please post back.   The issue of virtual enviorment is over my pay grade. quote from Norton Help Center below.

AntiVirus and SONAR Exclusions options let you specify the items that Norton Internet Security excludes from its scans. You can select the items and security risks that you do not want to include in Norton Internet Security scans. You can exclude the items from risk scans, Auto-Protect scans, and SONAR scans.

Exclusions reduce your level of protection and should be used only if you have a specific need.

The following table lists the AntiVirus and SONAR Exclusions options:

Items to Exclude from Scans

Lets you determine which disks, folders, or files you want to exclude from risk scanning

You can add the new items that need to be excluded or modify the items that you already excluded. You can also remove items from the excluded-items list.

Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR Detection

Lets you determine which disks, folders, or files you want to exclude from Auto-Protect scans and SONAR scans.

You can add the new programs that need to be excluded or modify the programs that you already excluded. You can also remove items from the excluded-items list.

Signatures to Exclude from All Detections

Lets you select specific known security risks for exclusion during scanning

Note:

Signature exclusions reduce your protection and should be used only if you have a specific need. You should exclude items only if you are confident that they are not infected.

Lets you select known risks by name and also lets you remove a risk name from the excluded-items list. You can also view the risk impact which is based on the performance, privacy, removal, and stealth impact.

Re: No option to restore file from quarantine.

Hi DoZe,

Your screenshot does not show the relevant window.  When you click "More Details" there should be an Options link at the bottom of the next screen with a restore option.  Are you not seeing that?

Since the Log says "Blocked", I think the file in question was never actually on your system.  See bjm_'s message about setting a folder that will NOT be scanned by Auto Protect but you may also have to turn off Download Insight to actually get the file on your system.  As Norton tightens the definitions on the files you are working on, you may find it even harder to get the file on your system with any of Norton active.

Re: No option to restore file from quarantine.

Hello again and thank you for your replies !

From now on i will make a folder and exclude it like you suggested this should work perfectly.

SendOfJive my screenshot does show the relevant window , where i made the circle there was supposed to be a "Options" button that allowed me to exclude the file, sadly it's not present , i will attach a screenshot now that i know how thanks to bjm_ and show you exactly what i mean , i have clicked "More details" as well but still no restore option , as you will also see in the screenshot.

Dbrisendine the file was on my system for about 2 days (till it was added to the definitions) it got removed from c:users\user\appdata\local\temp\

Once again i thank you for your help guys i didn't know i can exclude a folder from being scanned ( I Am new to Norton ) still no way to get that file back though , eh well i guess i'll have to move one to the next ones , plenty of malware to choose from
