"NOF" is either disconnected or disabled"

HI everyone

Yesterday my son was on the PC for an hour, then came back. NOF reported 'its web browser monitoring component was "either disconnected or disabled"

This happens often. Can anyone tell me why? I reboot the PC, but it still happens.

The only thing I can think is that my son is using task manager to defeat NOF.  Is it really that easy?

Thanks

Re: "NOF" is either disconnected or disabled"

Hi tkaufman,

Even though the Norton Safety Minder add-on is turned off, the program still monitors and blocks websites.

What monitors and blocks websites is Norton Safety Minder (not just the add-on for Norton Safety Minder).  To uninstall the program Norton Safety Minder, the program requires Norton Online Family email account and password.

When you see the message next time, please check the browser that your child uses to see if the Norton Safety Minder Extension is enabled.  You can find it by clicking Tools -> Manage Add-ons in IE if IE is being used.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: "NOF" is either disconnected or disabled"

Hi Katie

Sorry, but I'm confused as to the difference between NSM and the add-on.  Also, my son is using Firefox, so where would I find the add-on to make sure it is enabled?

This may be part of the issue, but yesterday he logged on to start his play time and the NSM popped up, the window said his time was up and gave him 60 seconds.  I was there, so I logged him in for a half hour "extra" (he hadn't yet used the computer that day) and then NSM allowed him to play without stopping for 75 minutes, not 30. I had to go in an tell him to stop.

So, to sum up, NSM blocked him when he first logged on and hadn't used any of his time, then when I gave him 30 minutes, NSM apparently stopped working altogether and let him play 75 minutes, which is when I came in and shut him down.

Thanks

Tom

Re: "NOF" is either disconnected or disabled"

tkaufman,

Norton Safety Minder is a small application that you install on every computer that your children use. Norton Safety Minder monitors and manages the Internet activity of your children. Norton Safety Minder provides this information to you through Norton Online Family Web site.

Norton Safety Minder add-ons is a piece of software which enhances the application.  For example, it helps to monitor video activities and social networking.

To find Norton Safety Minder add-on, please go to Firefox -> Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions -> Norton Safety Minder

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks, katie, I'll look at that.

As to question #2:

Why is that?

Hi tkaufman,

If it happens again next time, please click on the Norton Safety Minder icon on the PC and select View Time Remaining to see exactly how much time is left and let us know.

Thanks,

Katie
