North Live Update - 8/30/18 - Firewall Blocked Port 8080

After allowing my Windows 10 machine to restart to integrate Live Updates from Norton Internet Security on August 30, 2018, my internet connection became completely sluggish and showed Firewall Blocking Port 8080. Page load took 30-45 seconds, at times. After doing a System Restore, which removed those updates, the problem disappeared. This pointed to the idea that the updates could have been the cause. After the update and before the restore, I could not run a speedtest on the internet connection and got an error message that said socket error. A senior adviser at my internet provider ran a speedtest on my incoming modem signal to find full download and upload speeds to confirm not an internet issue.

Currently, I have Automatic Norton Live Updates turned off on my software until I have more time to re-run the update, in case it causes same. Norton rep wants me to re-run update to prove Norton faulty or not. Wanted to mention this issue, in case someone else experienced this. If Norton Live Update may be the cause, can someone from Norton troubleshoot it and fix it without using more of my time ? If it is not, can anyone help?

Norton Support only wanted to do a disk clean of temp, prefetch, app data, internet files, rather than more helpful troubleshooting. Such tech help was disappointing, frustrating and unsupportive.

Thanks.

Norton Support only wanted to do a disk clean of temp, prefetch, app data, internet files, rather than more helpful troubleshooting.

These are legitimate troubleshooting steps for your kind of issue. What would you suggest they should be doing that they did not? As you did a System Restore, any clues as to why you had this issue were removed from the computer. So if you have not applied the update again, there is nothing for Support to find.

When you first installed the update you feel caused the issues, how many times did you restart your computer? RESTART, not shutdown and startup again. The updated announcements now suggest multiple restarts may be required to fully update the product. Best practice is to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

All: Having fast startup enabled on Windows 10 can at times cause software installs to be incomplete. Recommend disabling fast startup and restart the system. Run live updates as peterweb suggested in an attempt to duplicate the issue. Here is how to disable fast startup.
