Norton 360 causes shared printer difficulties (print server reboot required)

I have a shared printer accessed through a print server. However, I need to reboot the print server (set OFF; wait a few seconds; set ON) in order to print. Otherwise, print doesn't work. Under Firewall Settings, I have enabled "Add Your Device to the Device Trust" and "Configure Your Network Trust" and set "IPS Exclusion." However, no success.

After Norton complete uninstall, the printer works like a charm (under Malwarebytes and Microsoft Windows Defender).

I also installed Avira Free, and the print server issues reappeared.

I am grateful for any help.

A few questions are in order so we can assist better.

Are you running Windows 10 Home or Pro? What version and build?

What print server are you using? Suggested article to view: https://redmondmag.com/articles/2018/04/23/control-network-printing-in-w...

Is Avira uninstalled? If not remove it and reboot

Are you using the Norton 360 VPN when printing? If so, disable auto-start

Is Malwarebytes set to load at boot? If so, disable that setting.

Does disabling ( temporarily ) the Norton firewall provide different results?

Are there entries in your Norton history indicating what, if anything the Norton firewall is blocking? Please share a screenshot so we can see what you are seeing. ** Please see your quote below, there should be entries in your Norton history IF, Norton is causing the issue.

Can you get or do you have screenshots of what is taking place to share with us? Here is how to post screenshots into your posts: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

Re: Norton 360 causes shared printer difficulties (print server reboot required)

Hi folks,

I would like to add my comment to this thread... I'm having problems using my (Canon G4110) printer via wi-fi, no print server.

It sort of works, especially for 1-page documents. However, if it is a larger job, it will interrupt the printing or scanning halfway, and show printer connection errors. I have also tried disabling the Smart Firewall and VPN, to no avail.

Given that I have tried these instructions below:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v63987985

And given that I have Windows 10 Home, I was wondering if there could be other options to solve this issue.

Thanks!

@Viviane I had an issue with my Canon Pixma MP640 on WiFi about three weeks ago. In my case I found that for some odd reason, I had to enable PNP in my NAT forwarding settings within my router settings. Never had to enable that setting before now, quite weird indeed. Your mileage may vary.
