Norton 360 V2: Not Recognizing external hard drive

I just downloaded the Norton 360 V2 and it doesn't detect my external hard drive that uses my USB port as a backup option.

Thanks.

UPDATE:  It seems that I can backup the files from my external hard drive, but it does not see it as a backup destination.

Did you try "mapping" the external drive?

N360 v2.0 does support backing up to usb devices.

JackieF:

Is the usb hdd connected through a normal usb plug (on the motherboard, or on the computer case), or is it connected through a usb hub, that has multiple usb devices/ports on it connected through 1 usb cable ?

Re: Norton 360 V2: Not Recognizing external hard drive

Funny, I have the same problem. v1 had no problem seeing my WD My Book, as does every other program on my PC. v2 does NOT see it or even list it. I've done three reinstalls following the advice from some sub-continental goofball. Before the 3rd reinstall it al teast showed my USB drive as an option but it still would NOT write to it. I always got a message saying there was a problem with the backup. Make sure the drive is connected. I've plugged the drive into every USB port on my PC and nothingworks. I've uninstalled the drive in Comman Panel several times as well as the controller. NOTHING! If v2 supports USB ports, I'd sure as all get out like to know why it won't use the USB drive but v1 did so gladly.

Re: Norton 360 V2: Not Recognizing external hard drive

I installed the latest GEAR drivers, even tho' thy're for burning. I installed the latest Live Update. The USB drive is properly mapped on my networked pc and on the primary pc. I still get the same error mesaage as before. Contrary to what the Symantec employee claims, v2 does NOT work with USB drives. If it failed on one PC, that would be one thing. But one all of my computers, that's a design failure and quite possibly a violation of the warranty or merchanability.

Well, a little gentle persuasion may have solved my problem with 360 v2 not seeing my usb drive.

Around February 15 - 19, version will be released. Symantec is going to install it on my PC and see if the problem still exists. They have not been able to duplicate the error in their labs. Or so they say. I'll kep you posted.

Re: Norton 360 V2: Not Recognizing external hard drive

I had the same problem v2.0 not recognizing my external USB drive.  I used my dell recovery disk and used the repair function to fix windows.  The USB devices now show up and work with no problem.  Hope this suggestion might help others

Re: Norton 360 V2: Not Recognizing external hard drive

Version 3.0 is supposed to be out later this month and will supposedly fix the USB problem. I don't have a recovery disk because I built my own PC using A-1 components, something Dell does not do. And a few of the  fixes support tried using remote access managed to muck up Windows Security Center and a couple other things. Oh well. Ther's always Kaspersky. And the only I got 360 v1 was I was told Systemworks Pro was a dead product.
