Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

Ok, I am well aware of the fact that Norton 360 V.2 does not support Windows XP bit.  However, I am wondering if there are any plans to, or any current developments to support Windows XP bit in the future (near hopefully).  I have been a satisfied customer with Norton/Symantec for as long as I've owned computers, and I'm thoroughly disappointed by the lack of 360 degree coverage for Windows XP version operating systems.

My objective is not to badmouth the company, but rather achieve a better understanding of the situation.  The only reason I have any hope for this to happen is due to the number of people reverting from Vista to XP, which would make it in Norton's/Symantec's interest to support those customers in their choice of operating system (It should be anyway).  I would greatly appreciate any research and response that provides insight into this issue.  I would appreciate the forwarding of my concern to those that may begin the developement of Norton 360 v2 to support Windows XP 64 even more :) .

Thanks,

5arge

(p.s.  I am also aware of the Norton Enterprise Ed. software that does support XP 64 bit, but I do not need 5 licenses, nor can I afford the $200+ expense)

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

I seem to be very confused about x64 support for Norton products.

I spoke to a customer service rep a few days ago asking about compatibility of Norton (Home) products for Windows XP x64 and was told that Norton 360 v2 is compatible for "EVERY" Windows x64 even though there are only 2 Microsoft Windows right now for personal computers.

Was this information in error? Is Norton 360 v2 compatible (even limited) with Windows XP x64 or are they refering only to Vista?

With the world converting to 64 bit systems it would be in Norton's best interest to list under system requirements 32bit or 64bit compatibility instead of just listing OS names. Norton 360 system requirements say -

"Operating systems: Windows XP Home/Professional/Media Center Service Pack 2 or later edition, Windows Vista† Home Basic/Home Premium/Ultimate/Business/Starter Edition." - copied from the website.

Contains no information about 32bit only or 64bit compatibility or even Vista 64 compatibility.

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

I apologize if you have received incorrect information -  Norton 360 v2 supports Windows XP Home and Pro 32-bit, and Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. I am sorry for the confusion.

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

Refering to the link http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html

It seems that sales information and technical information aren't even close to being on the same page.

At the bottom of the page refering to the 64-bit OS only section why is XP for 64-bit OS only refered to over and over? Does this mean that Norton AV 2008,  Internet Security 2008 and 360 are all 64 bit compatible for Windows XP Pro 64?

Would the next Norton Rep please investigate this and verify if these products are 64-bit compatible.

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

Hi Zeiram,

I appreciate the confusion in how the operating systems are listed on that page. Nevertheless, Windows XP 64-bit is not a supported platform for Norton 360 v1 and v2, nor for Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, or Norton SystemWorks.

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

I'm in the process of setting up a new Windows XP 64 bit computer. I went to the Symantec site, as I have done so many times before, to get some stuff. I paid for Norton 360 v2 and downloaded it. This is my first 64 bit system. It never occurred to me that Norton 360 v2 would not support 64 bit Win XP. Can I change my order, at this point, to something that will work on Win XP 64? Or, am I stuck with a $79 downloaded file that I will never use?

If you're wondering why I didn't go to Vista 64, The people that build my computer, Boxx, said that Vista still has problems with some hardware issues. When those problems are fixed, the computer builder will update me to Vista at no charge. It's a great computer. I wish I had some virus and Internet protection on it.

I would recommend contacting our Customer Support team to process a refund for the order. Be sure to have the order information ready:

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

Hello,

I downloaded the new Internet Security 2009 beta and that product does not support XP 64bit. How is it possible that a world leader in antivirus protection does not support 64 bit techology? I am not talking bad about Symantec and I am/was a very satisfied customer for over 7 years now. So the question I have to ask myself; do I need to cancel my subscription with Symantec and go elsewhere?

Windows 64bit has been on the market for some time now and It's sad that even the new Symantec product does not support 64bit. Atleast not Windows XP.

Regards,

Mikael

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

I, too, was baffled by the lack of XP64 support. I have used Norton and McAfee for a number of years. I thought that Norton was at the top of heep and I proudly recommended it to others who were looking for some virus protection. After buying Norton 360 for my new Windows XP 64 system, I found that XP 64 simply wasn't supported by Norton. I was incredibly confused as to how this could be. On the bright side, though, I tried Kaspersky and found it to be better in many ways than Norton. Most importantly, Kaspersky supports XP 64. Until Kaspersky does something like Norton (failing to support my OS), I'll be buying from them.

Thanks for the info. I will try that out for now. It's sad but I need an antivirus program.

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

When it comes to Vista operating system, I don't know of one person of who likes it. The interface design of Vista is horriable. Its very hard to get around, and there are alot of bugs in Vista, it always causes errors, and freezes up your computer. The bugs in Vista will not be fixed for years to come. I know large finacial companies where they have not event upgraded to XP to some of the bugs that it has.

I know right now 64bit is the new thing and people are slowly switching over, but norton deffintley has to get on board with XP 64bit because i cant see any companies choosing Vista 64bit over XP 64bit. Norton has some good productions like the systemworks which i have always used for years. Excellent program that kept my pc free of major errors. Now with me on 64bit i cant use it.

So Norton Get On It ASAP!!!

Re: Norton 360 V.2 for Windows XP 64 bit

I too was surprised by the lack of support for XP x64.  Unfortunately when I switched to x64 I had to pick alternative security solutions (Kaspersky and Comodo specifically) which work great after a bit of config work, but I would have been more than willing to continue to use Norton and related applications had they been able to support my OSes.

The lack of support is essentially Branding suicide.
