FWIW ~ I've had Auto-Protect greyed with asterisk that after Restart (not under influence of Fast Startup) changed into Auto-Protect greyed without asterisk.

Auto-Protect greyed will be evident by tray Icon and under Settings Antivirus....Or,
Auto-Protect greyed will be evident by tray Icon and under Security Advanced.

Note: Disable Auto-Protect & Disable Smart-Firewall (tray Icon) are greyed by design with standard user account.

Post back progress.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

I have the same issue with Auto Protect being greyed out. This appears to the be the same issue as in 22.7. When is Norton going to fix the bug. I'm on the verge of never using a Norton product again. I've searched and searched and have not found a permanent fix.

with or without asterisk ..?

with asterisk appears to be by design

as to without asterisk ..?

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

If looking under settings-antivirus there is an asterisk. They realized they messed up 22.7..and pulled the installer and released a fix. Mine was fine and I was able to disable auto-protect prior to 22.8 which is what I want to be able to do. Now were back at square one.

Also, restarting the computer as stated in the message does nothing to fix the issue regardless of no threats, quarantined items, etc.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

I've done the restart several times and my account is the only administrator account.

I tried turning off Norton tamper protection, restarting and turning it back on. Not seeing the Advanced View Switches? Where does this refer to?

  • I have no notion as to Norton official policy for Auto-Protect greyed with asterisk that does not sort by Restart.
  •  I have no notion what Auto-Protect greyed without asterisk infers.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

alright. I had a feeling there wasn't a fix insight. hopefully Norton resolves this again the near future.

Is your response in reference to the advanced switches? All of these settings being advanced switches.

Below is what I'm seeing...

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

unfortunately your suggestion does not fix the issue.

I think what's even more frustrating about this issue that has persisted in Norton 360 is that it doesn't tell you anything about what's causing the pending remediation. If it told you what program etc was causing it then you could possibly fix the problem. But it doesn't just that a restart is needed....real helpful Norton. Being that there's no log of any threat I have to assume it's a bug like last time or some type of false positive threat.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

Sorry,
last week suggest by Pcloverxp
https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7255331 worked for me, when Restart did not.

and
Turn Off Norton Product Tamper Protection.
Turn Off all Advanced view switches.
Restart
Turn On all Advanced view switches.
Turn On Norton Product Tamper Protection
has worked for me too, when Restart did not.

Used to think Low Reputation file was causal.  Just me.
Now, seems like Auto-Protect greyed is random.  Just saying.
Some setups for some users.   Sorry.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

Thanks. Appreciate you taking the time to provide some suggestion.

Either way hopefully all can agree this is an inconvenience on Norton's users and when this happens Norton 360 doesn't seem to be acting as one would expect. If this is by design I have serious concerns lol.

BY THE WAY I DID FIND A WORKAROUND ALTHOUGH I'LL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS WHEN I WANT TO TEMPORARILY DISABLE AUTO-PROTECT.

AS SOON AS THE COMPUTER BOOTS INTO WINDOWS, IMMEDIATELY OPEN NORTON 360 AND GO TO SETTINGS-ANTIVIRUS AND BEFORE AUTO-PROTECT HAS A CHANGE TO TURN GREY DISABLE IT. YOU HAVE MAYBE 10-15 SECONDS TO DO THIS, AT LEAST IN MY CASE.

meaning, you reinstalled Norton 22.8.1.14 and still have greyed switches.

Re: Norton 360Premier Autoprotect Greyed

yea really frustrating. even installed 22.7 and disabled automatic download of newest version but it still updated to 22.8. Words can't describe how frustrating this software is. I did a chat support session but they wanted to go through themselves and remove all traces from my registry of Norton which I did yesterday before the reinstall.

last time I let them due that they bluescreened by computer and I had to do a system restore. from what I've read i'm not the first person to have this happen.

they also wont escalate the issue until the first tier performs the steps themselves.....ridiculous
